area51 - BANNED FOR LIFE 10-26-2009 05:53 AM

Some of the first sites I ever built were on Geocities, Angelfire, Tripod, etc.

I wish I could find them they gotta be up somewhere, this was like 10+ years ago though.

Sarah_Jayne 10-26-2009 05:54 AM

My first ever site (which actually wasn't porn) was on them. I stopped updating it when it was bought by Yahoo and I couldn't get logged in.

AIbenjamink 10-26-2009 05:59 AM

Ah I remember the days of my first Angelfire pages..

CaptainHowdy 10-26-2009 07:25 AM

So long, Geocities...

Chris 10-26-2009 07:28 AM

LMFAO love it

Iron Fist 10-26-2009 07:49 AM

I personally enjoyed trolling through West Hollywood and seeing everyone post their crossdressing pics. Today, they all are on YouTube :)

Sarah_Jayne 10-26-2009 07:58 AM

God, I almost forgot that it was done as neighborhoods...lol

Suckerpunch 10-26-2009 08:08 AM

Wow... I started my first site on Geocities about 8 years ago. Tripod was another favorite of mine and some of my old celeb sites were still active until a few months ago...

Fletch XXX 10-26-2009 08:10 AM

never used it, bought my own hosting as soon as i figured out how to ftp LOL

nakeddutch 10-26-2009 08:13 AM

no more geocities? no more annoying, but "tolerable" (because you don't have a host) Ads....

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! :upsidedow

Sarah_Jayne 10-26-2009 08:38 AM

Tripod is still around..every now and then we have a new webmaster signup and try to build their sites on Tripod.

Elli 10-26-2009 11:20 AM

Wow.. the end of an era! Kinda sad, in a way.

Wow, blast from the past. I'll add xoom.com to that.

Megan Essog 10-26-2009 11:37 AM

I feel like a small part of my childhood is dying today along with geocities! I'll miss those horribly designed sites! :)

daniel_webcams 10-27-2009 02:40 AM

yeah I had my start in there too... :)

fatfoo 10-27-2009 02:44 AM

Oh, it's turned off? By the way, I thought Geocities didn't allow porn.

iSpyCams 10-27-2009 05:04 AM

When I think about geocities I hear modems trying to connect in my head.

Oops! Sorry didn't mean to make you feel old! :)
Makes me feel old thinking about those old sites! Seems like forever ago!

Adraco 10-27-2009 06:42 AM

Yeah, remember the horrible blink tag, and when the browsers first stopped supporting it. What a relief! And Geocities, all those horrible pages, when one had to learn tables, hexadecimal colors and so on. Oh, those were the days! :)

Sarah_Jayne 10-27-2009 09:28 AM

Myspace profiles all look like they were designed by Geocities pros.

DaddyHalbucks 10-27-2009 09:32 AM

It's the end of an era. Did Yahoo make any money with it?

woj 10-27-2009 09:42 AM

brings back memories for sure :thumbsup

TheHatchet 10-27-2009 10:05 AM

hahaha reminds me of my 2400 baud modem in my dads 386.... the good ol days!

Bojangles 10-27-2009 11:05 AM

I'll miss Geocities. :(

$5 submissions 10-27-2009 01:01 PM

geocities heralded the age of the Web 2.0 free pages/parasite hosts. Another honorable mention goes out to TERRA.ES for being "kind" enough to host MGP clips back in the days when hosting cost an arm and a leg.

pornpf69 10-27-2009 02:28 PM

why did they close geocities?!

u-Bob 10-27-2009 03:44 PM

memories....

CyberHustler 10-27-2009 03:55 PM

I remember showing my wife in 2006 some geocities porn pages I made in 2000 (at the age of 17)... I was happy they were still up so I could show my progression and shit. Shoulda made some screen caps. :Oh crap

BradM 10-27-2009 04:13 PM

good night sweet prince

2400 ..I remember being insanely happy when my parents let me step up to 2400

TeenSluts 10-28-2009 03:19 PM

first webpage i built was on angelfire :)

Ayla_SquareTurtle 10-28-2009 04:03 PM

I remember looking up weird movie fan sites and craft tutorials that were just text with no pictures. The net didn't seem so infinite back then.

BlackCrayon 10-28-2009 04:06 PM

at least the sites will live on via web archives.

xsabn 10-28-2009 07:12 PM

my first site was there

Angry Jew Cat - Banned for Life 10-28-2009 07:42 PM

I was all about Angelfire. Is that shit still going?

Matt 26z 10-28-2009 08:55 PM

I can't believe they removed that much early internet content. There were sites on there dating back 10+ years.

I doubt it, but maybe everything will end up on Archive.org.

D Ghost 10-28-2009 11:09 PM

NooooooooooooooOooOOooooo! Not my old first websites from 1996 with lawyer and redneck jokes and other useless info.... gone.

born2blog 10-28-2009 11:37 PM

over a decade ago I built my first ever website with Geocities, was a site dedicated to Pearl Jam, how times have changed!

Needless to say, I had offloaded some clips on terra.es in one of my countless accounts there.

Thanks for the blast from the past.

nikki99 10-29-2009 07:50 AM

It wasn't refered to as geoshitties for nothing. You were just clueless, it's ok...
