Test Drove The New Porsche Panamera Turbo Today

I drove the 4S a few weeks ago and today the turbo version. Amazing car and the pictures don't do it justice. This car was fully loaded and it had the Burmester Sound, which is a pricey option at nearly $6g but it's actually worth it. Ultimately the car is incredible but too fast for a daily driver. The turbo fully loaded has a sticker of $160 and they aren't discounting. For $35 less the 4S is perfect.

i was surprised how huge it is when i saw it the first time for real. and yeah, with your speed limits 400 hp should be enough :P

I stomped on it and was going nearly 90 in the parking lot. :)
The thing about it I really like is that it is big and comfortable, yet it still feels like a 911 through the corners. This car would destroy my E55 which is also nearly 500hp in any kind of a race.

Loch 10-24-2009 02:26 PM

Thinking of adding it to your collection? :)

Gee thats cheap, you guys in the States have no idea how cheap your toys are and houses. Example. The price of 1 car for you is 2.5 - 3 times more for us, i shit you not. You guys buy ferraris 430's for 120k They cost us on the cheap 450k. Even your houses a super cheap. Shit i gotta marry a US babe to get in the US, Sweet country!

I raced a rice burner in my 911, I thought I would loose. I didnt. It was a hiabusa too.
Seems they choke off in the 180 mph range.

very cool car

scuba steve 10-24-2009 05:59 PM

just me, but i think some cars should stay true to what they started with. there shouldn't be 4 door porsche sports cars. they're shouldn't be automatic transmission ferraris. they're shouldn't be 4 door m3s. i'm sure i could go on, but essentially these cars were created and developed for the enthusiast. there's a substitute if someone wants a 4 door or automatic car, but for the real driver, thats what these were made for. yes, i know, companies need to evolve and adapt, but thats how a majority of these major companies began-a need for a real sports car.

while you are somehow right just look how many sport car manufacturers survived on their own and are profitable.

Porsche used to be one until recently, now there's only Morgan left. (not counting those little manufacturers that build like 5 cars a year like Koenigsegg or so)

I strongly supported that idea when Porsche first announced the Cayenne. The first year it was out I wouldn't even look at it. Now I own one. I think what car companies have done smart is recognize that people who like to drive don't want to be limited to the track or a few hours on a nice weather weekend day. The first time I drove my E55 I was shocked that a car that is so fast could also be so comfortable and easy to drive in any condition. I think the Panamera raises the bar for all the manufacturers of sports *cruisers*. I've owned and driven a lot of different cars and to date the Panamera does it all just a bit better than everyone else.

That being said, today is a nice weather day and I am getting my 993 aircooled cabrio 6sp fueled up and ready for a run through the twistys. :)

shimmy2 10-25-2009 07:59 AM

i dont care if it has a stuttgart badge on it, that car is a porky whale and if you showed up to a PCA meeting, autocross, or 'driving school' you would not get the time of day. now if you just wanted to ride around your kids or some hoes thats about all a 4 door porsche is good for. and if u ask me about 95% of cars on the road today are too heavy for any serious fun

I know three local PCA members that already either own one or have one on order. None of them traded in their 911 for one. It's a daily driver. A very well done daily driver. It was designed to compete with the M5,E63 etc. Ferrari has nothing to be concerned about.

Rather that than my driver license! The car is very quiet and does 0-60 in the low 4 second range. There is no way I wouldn't get many tickets.

stever 10-25-2009 09:34 AM

i prefer the 911 turbo

Is there actually leg room for the passengers in the back?

Lots,it's as roomy in the back as my E55amg.

Congrats then. Can I have a ride? :)

i understand the need for a daily driver, don't get me wrong.

i'm a bmw enthusiast, and it was nice having the x5 come out, like the cayenne. but when bmw released the new m3 as a 4 dr version, it was a let down to be honest. the m5 was the 4 door cruiser, the m3 was the sporty "nice weather" (even though it is a daily driver). i feel similar to porsche, cayenne is the one you pack up with your family, and the rest (besides the boxster-weak haha) are for having fun. i've been in porsches plenty, and i do think they are amazing cars. but if you want a sedan, stick to mercedes, hell, stick to the cayenne in my book. i guess its hard to wrap my mind around a 4 door sporty porsche. whats next, you get your 4 door version of your lambo? ;)
