how long does it take photoshop to open

mine takes 16 seconds give or take.

I really need a new computer

BJ 12-12-2002 05:26 PM

this all depends on the first time you open it or the second time per boot.

edit: I just open in the hopes I can remember what I learned in high school:)

add some memory

Zebra 12-12-2002 05:32 PM

I have a P4 1.8GHZ with over a Gig of RAM. I also have a lot of plugins. Photoshop 7 takes 8 seconds to open for me.

Cohen 12-12-2002 05:41 PM

Photoshop v7 takes MAX 4-5 sec. on my Dual AMD MP2200
But version 6 takes like 20 seconds on my firewall pc (amd 700)

init 12-12-2002 09:02 PM

photoshop6 takes approx 4 second on my amd XP 2200+ 2.0 ghz

hottoddy 12-12-2002 10:27 PM

On my 486DX 33, it doesn't.

Seriously, P7 is a major resource hog.

Jakke PNG 12-12-2002 10:49 PM

A bit over 7 hours.

[Labret] 12-12-2002 11:08 PM

3 seconds or so. 15 seconds on old computer. It would sit on "loading fonts" for 10 seconds of it.

Mutt 12-13-2002 03:07 AM

hmm............ P4 256 mb RAM ....... and it takes 15 seconds to boot up Photoshop 6.

maybe i don't have enough memory........sounds like it should be faster.

i don't care really.......it seems blazing fast to me, a year ago i was using a Pentium 233 with 64 mb RAM and it took probably 2 minutes.

ya know, i'm not much of a techie, what's a good piece of software to see if my computer is working as well as it should and if it sucks will give me some possible reasons why?

i've had a sneaking suspicion ever since i got this computer that it's not performing up to what it should.

I can't encode video using Windows Media Encoder, crashes the machine if i try to encode at anything but the crappiest quality, little movies made for 56k dialup. I couldn't get anyboy to
tell me why, the machine far exceeds Microsoft's requirements, i know lots of people with a P4 256MB machine who have no trouble encoding WMV movies. But what the fuck? How am i supposed to figure out why it won't work? I went to Microsoft newsgroups, all the good video sites like DVDHelp.com, nobody could help me.

I don't even know who to call in the phonebook for that kind of thing cuz it's about a specific piece of software. I will NOT call Microsoft's support and pay those morons..........been there done that seen that horror show before.

well any help or suggestions are appreciated.

eru 12-13-2002 03:13 AM

6 seconds

I have tons of fonts though.

mastamindz 12-13-2002 03:18 AM

My system has been so fucked lately it takes about 2 minutes for a program like PS to load. Also takes about 10 - 20 minutes to boot up :(

chodadog 12-13-2002 03:19 AM

About 20-30 seconds on this shitheap. About 6 or 7 seconds on the faster computer.

HungSolo 12-13-2002 03:22 AM

I've got a duron 850mhz with 128mb ram and v6 takes about 15 seconds, but I'm able to have image ready open at the same time so I'm happy. :)

256M should be fine, but I tend to be a RAM junkie and run at least a gig in my machines. Does your pc crash at any other time or is it just when you run encoder. If it only crashes during encoder most likely it is a software related issue, however if you get random lockups during other program you may wanna look into hardware. With windows it can be pretty difficult to narrow down software issues , but my best suggestion would be to first go to control panel --> add/remove programs and uninstall any unneccessary programs. Also do an uninstall of encoder and any other prgrams that may have been installed with it. Open IE, go to Tools--> windows update and be sure to download any patches that may be available. May wanna upgrade to the latest version of Windows Media Player as well (even though I think 9 is a POS) as that could also be causing the issue. Also go to the windows media site (microsoft.com/mediaplayer or something ?) and download and install any codec packs they have available. If that doesnt solve it ..... umm get really upset at Bill Gates and consider a reinstall of your OS if its that important.

"add some memory"

... I second that, you donīt really need a new computer, stick in as much as your motherboard supports ... 2GB of RAM and you can run your puter on a 486 ... trust me !

Undutchable 12-13-2002 04:27 AM

11 seconds on AMD 1800+ :thumbsup

Dusen 12-13-2002 06:43 AM

I found it loads faster on my U2W Cheetah than on a UDMA133 drive. Same other system specs.

Mutt 12-13-2002 06:47 AM

thanks Rory. The only software I've run that crashes is Windows Media Encoder trying to convert an avi or mpeg into a 256kbps WMV file.
