some very sick people in this world.... as I prepare to take my wife for one of her last 30 days check ups today before giving birth, stories like this touch me differently now as I prepare for my daughters arrival.

Her poor family. I cannot imagine the pain of losing my child.

Iron Fist 10-22-2009 09:30 AM

Sick.... and yet, the killer gets what... three free meals a day and can watch TV all day and night? Sounds like a fair deal.

John-ACWM 10-22-2009 09:35 AM

Parents outliving their children, that's really sad.

TheDA 10-22-2009 09:35 AM

Very sad.

"...94 registered sex offenders that live within a three-mile radius..."

On more than one occasion I've seen astonishing figures for this kind of thing.

Furious_Male 10-22-2009 11:21 AM

Another horrible outcome. Props to the detective that researched where refuse goes from that city. Without his "hunch" they might never have recovered her body either leaving the family wondering forever.

"Somer vanished on her mile-long walk home from school Monday in Orange Park, near Jacksonville."

Yes, 7 is too young to walk home alone . . . . it is negligence on the parent's part if that is true.

seeandsee 10-22-2009 11:42 AM

kill the fuckers if they find them

miss_jody 10-22-2009 11:44 AM

Well seems she was at least with other kids...

She had been walking with her two siblings, including a twin brother, and a friend when she got into an argument with another child. Somer walked ahead of the group and was never seen again.

The article said she was walking home with a sibling and friends, I believe, but got into an argument with one of them and took off alone. I would not let my 8-year-old walk a mile home from school without adult supervision. I won't even let him wait at the bus stop alone in the morning. But I get accused of being overprotective all the time.

:thumbsup

O damn that sucks :( Was hoping for a better outcome then this! Hell I'm over protected as it is with my two boys! I couldn't even think about how I would be if I had a little girl! I wouldn't even let my 13 year old boy walk home a mile! Hell just this year I allowed him to walk home from the bus stop which is right down the street 8 house down from where we live!

TopbucksMatt 10-22-2009 12:19 PM

I bet nancy grace was behind the whole thing.

JenniDahling 10-22-2009 12:25 PM

It has to be someone she knew, I can see the scenario now: She gets into a spat with one of her peers, ran ahead of them and someone she knew like a neighbor or uncle offers her a ride. Since she knows him and thinks she can beat the rest of the kids home, she willingly jumps in. It goes bad from there.

Unfortunately there are so many remote/rural areas that seldom get any passing traffic that the residents get a false sense of security. Many of them don't even lock their front doors, assuming no one ever goes out there. This sounds like a similar setting.

My heart goes out to the family, especially the dad who lives in NC. I couldn't imagine anything happening to my girls but know it would be far worse if I wasn't there.

TheDA 10-22-2009 12:53 PM

Just reading abit more about this.

"Of the 161 offenders in the area, 16 are classified as predators, which generally means the offender was convicted of a first-degree felony sex offense – many of which involve the molestation of children."

Of those 16 it looks like there were around 4-5 that lived within 1 mile.

How much of the info about the registered sex offenders is public record in the US?

Can you check how many/where the ones in your area are located?

Yes, and then you get to give the suspicious eye to dozens of houses in your neighborhood every time you drive by.

Don't really see how it would have to be somebody she knew. She's was only 7, any predator could easily overpower her and take her to the abandoned house.

Agreed, but I'm sure with many households having both parents working this scenario is all too common.

MrHits 10-22-2009 02:02 PM

I hope they find the fucker that did this soon before he has the opportunity to strike again.

bastard

pornpf69 10-22-2009 03:00 PM

that is too fucking sick!!!

martinsc 10-22-2009 03:01 PM

damn......that's fucked up.....

Agent 488 10-22-2009 03:03 PM

bet it will be her dad. pretty much all sexual abuse is done my an immediate family member. quite often they point fingers at some distant bogeyman to throw people off the trail of their own guilt.

Fletch XXX 10-23-2009 06:18 AM

"Thompson said today that she has been wracked by feelings of guilt and responsibility for being at work when her youngest daughter disappeared.

"I feel responsible," she said. " If I could have just, I don't know, left work or something and been able to pick her up, this wouldn't have happened.""
So looks like mom was at work...

However, this leads to other questions, how old are the kids being allowed to stay home by themselves now? This child was not only walking home alone, but going home alone as mom was at work,... wow.
