Can you send a mobile text message from a computer?

I need to send a text to someone. Is there a way you can do this from the computer?

Service of the receiver is Verizon.

edit:
Currently we support the following major cell phone providers in USA: T-mobile, Sprint and Nextel. Verizon Wireless is coming soon

Google it. I'm sure you can find a solution. Otherwise bump for more replies.

You can usually send an SMS message to a cell phone via email. Most of the cell phone providers have a special email address or domain that you can send a message to, which then gets forwarded as a text message to the cell phone. For example with Verizon in the U.S., you can email ##########@vtext.com, where "##########" is replaced with the 10 digit cellular number, and that message will get sent as a text message to that phone. Other carriers typically have some type of equivalent and/or a web page from which you can send a text message to one of their phones.

You can do it through yahoo messenger

After Shock Media 10-19-2009 08:42 PM

just a fyi and warning. Many providers send a "allow" type message first. Cause early on I could send a text from a program like AIM at will. Now it asks them if they want to read such a message first.

baddog 10-19-2009 09:27 PM

vtext and yahoo

Spammers take note.. you can't just spam every number from 1 - 9999999999 it won't work.

I was able to do it through aim. Like mentioned, the recipient needs to accept the message.
