Crash test: 1959 Bel Air vs. 2009 Malibu

This is the first old vs. new crash test I've seen.

You always hear that old cars are tanks. Let's see what happens....

The Bel Air also has crumple zones... didn't you see the A pillar fold? :1orglaugh

That was amazing.... you could almost walk away from the Malibu... but you'd definitely be on life support in the BelAir... that dash went right up to his throat... fucking scary.

shh you will stir up the anti government tin foil hat people and of course all those that think they build todays cars like crap on purpose so they cost more to fix and no other reason.

geedub 10-19-2009 06:29 AM

that is wild.. of course i was one of the many who thinks big old cars are tanks.. after seeing that i want a 2009 malibu haha

crockett 10-19-2009 07:46 AM

There were no child seats in the 50s or 60s either. Imagine the loss of life.

pornpf69 10-19-2009 08:29 AM

that is pretty interesting...

96ukssob 10-19-2009 09:19 AM

pretty amazing. even with the size and weight of the 1959 chevy it still took a huge beating

theking 10-19-2009 09:53 AM

The smaller lighter car knocked the bigger car backwards...hmm.

Did you see the fake blood come out of the dummy? And the tear in the back of the neck? That would have been a fatal accident in real life. Those dummys simulate our stress thresholds. Watch closely.

if anyone ever believed that bigger cars are automatically safer and that older cars are more stable than new ones, i suggest replacing the crash test dummy in that 1959 car and try yourself ;)

the only point i can see is that from the outside it cannot be judged how rotten that old car was underneath and therefore the structure may have been already weakened. but even if it was brandnew the result would not have been much different - 50 years of research make a difference.

Isn't that paint so they can see where the head hits?

My physics teacher once told me that the car travelling faster will transmit significantly more force, so if you knew you were going to be in an accident you should accelerate. :) :1orglaugh
