Looking ahead, the company will discontinue production of Buell motorcycles, resulting in the loss of 180 jobs over time. It'll book one-time charges of $215 million to $245 million in 2009 and 2010, about $55 million ahead of its July projections. The company expects to ship 35,000 to 40,000 motorcycles in the fourth quarter.

It means it's a non-recurring expense.

That you'd have to be a sucker to buy a Buell and I was surprised that in today's economy people that dumb have any disposable income left.

why's that? they make/made terrific bikes that often pushed the engineering envelope, got rave reviews by bike reviewers and enthusiasts.

Their bikes are so good a) they are going out of business and b) you can actually buy them pre-junked?

the blast pre-junked that you are referring to was a marketing tactic.

buell was the redheaded step-child of harley. h-d dealers never gave buell the attention it required.

that, combined with the quirky look of the bikes, kept them from selling more. the demise of the brand is more about harley sales plummeting 84%, not due to buell.

their bikes are quite good actually.

Well, to paraphrase Samuel L. - motherfuckin' sewer rat may taste like pumpkin pie but I'm never gonna find out.

If you want to buy one and ride one, god bless you, brother. You can probably score one dirt cheap.
