happens to all types of music. Funk turned into disco, rock n' roll turned into hair metal, country turned into whatever you wanna call it etc... Once a new genre becomes popular it gets commercialized to the point where it's all just a big mess of people all sounding the same.
There was a certain sincerity in early hip hop. It was new so nobody thought it would make you rich. The artists just did it because they loved it and had a story to tell. |
