using TMPG to split mpeg movies
Hi, i'm cutting bits out of movies using TMPG, i've found my way around the program and can select the bits i want and output them- but- the file size of the output is always much larger than i would like. For example, i have a 1min movie which is origionaly 2.7 megs. I take a 10 second cut out of it and it and the file size of the cut is 1.6 megs.
It should really be only 300-400kb or so if it's just splitting the file. Any ideas what the settings on TMPG should be to produce this output? Any help would be great, thanks in advance :) |
why cut them?
|
I had the same prob when I tried that. I tried all different methods & I got the file size down, but a REALLY shitty picture, so I gave up on that. Then I went out & got Womble which is perfect for cliping mpeg-1 & 2 movies. So easy to use a monkey could opperate it.

do either of these pieces of software automate the process?
i.e. you stick a 30 minute clip in there and say 'cut this into as many 15 second clips as you can' and let it run, only to have 120 finished clips when it is done? If not, please suggest something I can use to do this in a batch format. Thanks. |
I never tried it, so I dunno. It only takes a few minutes anyway, so....
|
It only takes you a few minutes to cut 120 clips out of a larger 30 minute movie?

eRock, Womble looks great- it seems you need the full version to cut bit of clips, yes?
I've selected the bit i want a seperate clip of but am unsue what to do next, when i hit save which MPEG format do i save it as? |
Yeah, you need the full version.
Select the bit you want, click on Mark in/out depending on where you're at in the movie, then click on "cut" in the direction of the clip you want cut out. Then click on save or record, select where ya wanna save it & what ya wanna call it, hit "ok" and voila! It should automatically save as an mpeg. It does for me at least. |
Thanks for your help, looks good but i'ed prefer something cheaper for now ; (
Okay- now i'm trying VCD Cutter- i manage to cut and output a small amount of the movie, but, it has no sound when i try and play it? grrr.. any ideas? |
Okay guys, i've finaly figured it out with TMPG. Here we go.
Select 'MPEG Tools' in the file menu. Then go to the last tab 'Merge and Cut'. Add a file, hit 'Edit' to select the bits you want. Name the output file you want it too be, and hit RUN :) fuck, finaly! woohoo :1orglaugh |
But there are no tools that you know of to automate the process?
|
sorry, not that i know of. I'm sure there are however- especialy if your willing to pay.

Tell it how many parts and then fix you something to eat. By the time you get back you will have all the little movies in the folder you picked out. Simple as can be. |
