That was a GREAT Sunday (pics)

Since I had been out of the country my motorcycle riding was put on hold. I was really looking forward to yesterday. My son and I put on about 300 miles (well, he put on almost 500). Here are a few of the images.

Enjoy.

My dad and I went on a trip to Yellowstone park a couple of years back and saw a ton of of bikers. I definitely wanna do that one day soon. Looked like such a blast...

The best part about it is time with your son. Life is short.

That and the fact that now he truly understands things he did not really "get" when he was younger.

Doesn't it hurt when a bug hits you in the face?

dyna mo 10-12-2009 01:26 PM

which biker joint is that? looks familiar but several have that sort of rock facade eh. y'all hit the curvies or keep pretty much on the straights?

Jimmy Rock 10-12-2009 01:37 PM

I know you weren't holding the camera and taking this pic while you where riding! where you?

The Deer Lodge, Ojai. Unexpected treat. Just came around the last turn and it was the first thing we saw. Not sure it is a "biker joint" any more than Neptune's Net is. Just a great destination on a Sunday ride [now that I know it is there].

See the straightaways?

This is what was at either end of it.

Truth be told, I never took this ride before and had no idea of what to expect. Never gave it much though to be honest. I had told my son to be prepared for some cold weather mainly because I did not know how late we would be out.

Turned out there was at least 40 or 50 miles of non-stop turns. Maybe more. It was really too advanced for my son, especially since he had gone down once on the Snake in Malibu. The signs kept saying 15 more miles, then you go 15 and 500' later, 6 more miles, then 9, and well you get the idea.

He was ready for it to be over. I felt sorry for him that he had to drive another 100 to get home. We may have to do a winery ride next week. :1orglaugh

dyna mo 10-12-2009 01:56 PM

fyi, none of the pics of y'all riding were taken on curvy roads, thus my question. a pic of a curvy road doesn't mean it was ridden. i was simply trying to take an interest in the thread by asking a question or 2

thanks also for the correction re: biker joint, i'll log that.

It was so strange, we were blasting down the road and this red-tailed hawk swooped down, pulled the point and shoot from my front pocket and snapped that pic.

Then he put the camera back where he found it.

That's not true. He tried once and screwed up.

http://juliablue.com/oct112260.jpg

When I saw it I made him do it over again. :upsidedow

Yeah, to be honest, I would not try taking pics of myself on those roads. It was pretty twisty.

Not sure why the attitude, was laughing at the straight roads aspect, not the question. Would have been more fun for him if it was straight though.

Thanks.

no attitude, perhaps a smiley is in order.

:)

i would hope you wouldn't try and take pics whilst riding twisty road. i didn't see any twisty roads in the immediate background of those pics is more along the lines of my thought.

There is no straight road that will get you to these vantage points.

You can get to the Deer Lodge on straight roads if you just take the 101 to the 33, but you would miss some great riding.

33 is fun, i've hit it only a few times though, most recently on the way up to motogp. i try and avoid 101 at all costs but have only taken pch up to 33.

while a fun ride, it's a long way up there & there's twistier roads closer to l.a., angeles crest highway over to wrightwood has been a favorite up until the fire closed it. i like the malibu hills roads around the rock store but i find they are being neglected by whichever agency is responsible for the,. palomar mountain is good, super technical, i.e. slow going with those crazy 15-20mph turns.

We took 5 over the Grapevine to 166, to 33 to 101 to 405. Big circle. Was not particularly looking for twisties.

no reason to with a beginner on that softtail

:)

oh i think we did go 166 once, lots of farms, artichokes or something.

After Shock Media 10-12-2009 03:35 PM

Whats bad is I look at the distant showing of how curved the road is and still find that almost straight compared to how the mountain roads get up here. Not sure how the riders even handle it. Shit is bad enough in a car.
Though there are a lot of roadside areas you could pull off on for the scenic view that are built in. Seems due to the size and when the roads were first put in, many of them would fit a bike much better than any number of cars. There are many that easily do fit cars too, which is nice. Thankfully most also have water plus great views.

Orchards. Looked like apples mainly. Maybe some almonds. Hard to tell at 80.
