Anyone using FDC Servers?

I'm thinking of moving one of my servers over to FDCServers.net for their summer special. Sales says the special ends at the end of the month.

Looking for feedback on them, both good and bad. I've seen some bad reviews of them years ago, but mostly positive lately.

So, any feedback would be appreciated :thumbsup

Personally i hate the idea of shared bandwith you never know what you will get that being said thier pricing on dedicated bandwith is one of the lowest you will find.

If you are not comfortable with saturated upstream during peak times, then FDC is not for you. The pricing is great, though.

I used to keep media boxes there, and it worked out great for what I was paying. The site software was hosted on boxes elsewhere, that weren't affected by peak demand.

If you do use FDC, be sure to run your IP range through an RBL checker as soon as it is assigned, and before you start relying on the server. At one point, FDC had a huge problem with dirty blocks that were never de-listed after the abusers were terminated. I'm not sure if things have changed in the last year or so.

That's a good point, thanks.

Anyone else have feedback on them?

stay as far away as possible, worst host ever

quantum-x 10-12-2009 04:31 AM

Depends what you're using them for.
Dirty high bandwidth boxes? Go nuts.
Mission critical hosting? Stay away.

I have a 100MBit box with them, and pushed 100MB/s solid for 3 months - no issues at all.

The warning about checking IP ranges is very important, however.

:2 cents:

Fucking terrible host.

Great for idiots though.

I would say go for it boss.

this host is great for only one reason and that is price...
everything else pretty much sucks...

you can use it as a download server to host your files
but not as your main server...

their support is often very slow...

I tend to take my online businesses seriously and don't like to waste my time. There are a few very reutable quality hosts out there that are stable and far more reliable and way better support at still good prices. If you need to use this fdc type of oversold, shitty support junk hosting then you are destined to fail in the long run anyway.:2 cents::2 cents: I've tried going to the cheapiest host deal in the past and the results are always the same....it's just not worth it.:2 cents:

If you're wanting to go with FDC, I'd recommend you use one of their resellers, that add a layer of support over the top.

http://www.zenex5ive.com - I've been using them for two years now. Their tech support, even on an unmanaged box is quite exemplary - I've always had a reply in under 2 minutes, and they've gone out of their way to get tricky tarballs built from source for odd things.

Again - not the best for mission critical, but I can recommend their services as a solid, no-frills, need big bandwidth host.

FDC's ips are dirtier than a thailand whore..

Its not good for mail at all.. i stupidly got a server with 254 ips, and the whole damn range was blacklisted badly.. i told them to swap, they said no.. i asked for a refund, they gave it to me..

id recommend DMEHOSTING.com though.. or Burst.net

Cheap servers, good support, clean IPS

bloggerz 10-12-2009 08:14 AM

Last i heard about them they were mainly used for mailing

xxweekxx 10-12-2009 08:20 AM

ya cuz they dont shut down can-spam mailers.. unless you hit spamhaus. otherwise you can blast all day long.... except their ips are all blacklisted and your deliverability will be 1%

PastorSinAlot 10-12-2009 08:23 AM

use them for a year for my site Ghettotube no problems, just didnt like support, so i moved which was a big mistake as of friday

seems like everything is sold out

At one point, they weren't shutting down anything unless it hit SH, non-compliant mailers included. At that time, that was the least of their problems, with all of the botnet controllers, VX droppers, and warez sites that managed to stay alive.

DME sold me a blacklisted server with a pre-installed trojan. They failed to provide fresh IPs when I opened a ticket. The ticket was closed without a response. They did manage to re-provision when I discovered the trojan upon first login.

I don't need to use shitty oversold hosting. I was asking because their prices are nice and I wanted feedback on them. I also don't need much support unless the hardware or pipe has problems, and I don't need managed hosting. The issues with their ip range and over saturation is what's killing the promo deal for me.

Thank you everyone for your feedback, I'm going to pass on fdcservers.
