And the only president to actually do nothing to earn it.

Can anyone tell me why he won this?

What does it say on paper, as to his achievements to gain such an award. I'm curious.

Ya know since he's only been in office for such a short period of time & hasn't ended a single war :1orglaugh

I honestly think Obama should go into the music industry i mean that's why he got elected in the first place.

If some of these fools could sell records no doubt in my mind Obama with top the charts :1orglaugh

They had a pretty good discussion of this on CNN today and one guy made a pretty good point. He said in 2008 George Bush's approval rating in Britain (one of our main allies) was around 12%. One year later Obama is at about 85% and even higher in France and Germany. He has also told Muslims we will reach out to them and gave a speech in Egypt about this. He has also gotten Russia to agree (along with us) to reduce their nuclear arsenal. While a lot of these things remain to be seen as to whether or not he will pull them off he has brought the US back into the limelight in Europe and put us back in their good graces.

It is all a little weak, but the guy did make a pretty good argument. Still, it sounds like mostly he got it on the hope that he will achieve a lot of the goals he has set out to attain.

Any of you guys that think he shouldn't have received the award... let's talk about who you think has had a bigger impact on world peace in 2009.

that would actually require to step back, think and look at the world from a view from outside the US. not easy for many americans while they lose jobs and houses. so while i think the reaction is a bit sad, it's understandable.

he has laid some groundwork...be better if he got this in 5 years...after results started showing up

Obviously the Russians are pleased as Obama has done more to weaken the US than any president since Jimmy Carter. I am sure all of America's enemies are celebrating this "honor".

All the internationalists are excited about Obama's Nobel, but their interests are not the same as your average American.

The Demon 10-11-2009 03:26 PM

Approval ratings mean dick. Hell, a few weeks ago Obama was already under 50%.

Let's see what Obama is doing.
1.Increasing deficit spending to proportions the world has never seen. I mean he's already making Bush look good.
2. Not improving the Trade Surplus in any way.
3. Creating retarded stimulus programs that create ARTIFICIAL consumer spending and growth, then taking that information and trying to improve consumer and foreign confidence.
4. Trying to create a universal healthcare system which is completely unsustainable in the US.

That's just on the top of my head. I can't think of anything positive. But I guess talking bullshit wins awards.
