That's never been a secret. Actually TNT is almost useless for military use, however it's very helpful for mining etc. So I don't think that Nobel did something bad by himself.

Alfred Nobel created the peace prize after inventing dynamite. To help the world after creating something potentially harmful, he must be turning over in his grave today.
