Porn in a recession: front page of CNN right now

Interesting..

http://www.cnn.com/2009/LIVING/10/05...lls/index.html

excerpt:

Seka, a platinum blonde performer from the 1970s and '80s who says her Web site gets 600 million hits a year, said that the Internet has "been good to me. It's been great."

But, she said, she has noticed a drop in the past two months.

"Business has dropped off about 5 percent, and that's a big drop," she said. "It takes money to run a Web site, which involves Internet servers, maintenance, providing updates -- all costs which cut into your bottom line."

Seka, a native Virginian, said part of the problem is that women on the Internet are "a dime a dozen" and lacking in the kind of variety the industry once had.

"We didn't have the same type of competition that exists today," she said. "Everyone looks the same now."

600 million visits per year? Around 1,600,000 visits per year? Oh wait, she said "hits". She might have 500 sliced images on her main index page, and her server registers each file query as a "hit", and she thinks those are "visits".

rowan 10-05-2009 05:57 PM

5% doesn't seem like a large enough drop, can you really say that a relatively small variation like that is due to a recession?

The journo probably interviewed her by phone and got it wrong. Wouldn't be the first time.

pornjudge 10-05-2009 06:00 PM

Could someone also tell those webcam models that we are in a recession also, I still see them charge 2.00 or 3.00 a minute...

Titan 10-05-2009 06:02 PM

The print medium is so dead. Who buys magazines when you can get that stuff online?

convention attendance down
> way too many conventions
> way too expensive to attend

lavish parties gone
> they over spent on that stuff and its the first thing thats easy to cut

I think the weak are being culled from the herd. Adapt or die.

before you bash her, you may want to think about the fact that she is partially responsible for you being here...

chew on that :2 cents:

A hit in non-webmaster worlds means a unique...

Minte 10-05-2009 06:13 PM

If she is only off 5% she is doing amazingly well. Everyone I talk to is off significantly more than that.

Interesting that the article says 18k people attended that show. Those are consumers, mind you. Maybe there's something in opening it up to the public... ?

hahahahahahahahahaha.

I think she means page views if anything. 600 million unique visitors. Not quite.

She's his mom? :1orglaugh Sorry, couldn't resist.

In a way she's right, in a way she's wrong...there's plenty of different looks online but seems like a majority of the girls these days follow a similar look. They're all hot but when it starts becoming too usual, it's just not the same. I'm finding it a lot harder to tell some of them apart than it used to be.

Lace 10-05-2009 06:39 PM

Every number in that article is BS.

DVD sales are down? How about piracy and tubes, not recession?

I hate articles in the real world about porn. They're such bullshit, it's not even funny. Yeah, we're all hurting but it's not ALL over the down-spiraling economy.

i agree... all i am saying is that there is an attitude that if "if you dont believe what i think, you are wrong"

this mentality is part of the problem.. when did listening to what others say become unimportant..

the best corporate company i ever worked for used to preach that even the janitor could provide valuable insight and ideas...

every idea and opinion provides valuable insight even if those ideas and opinions differ from what you think is important or things you would personally implement... :2 cents:

600 million hits a year. Maybe she's over-exaggerating?

600 million hits a year ? thats about 1.65 million hits a day. That is a lot of traffic, which website is hers ? or is she just a tad full of shit ?

kmanrox 10-06-2009 12:11 AM

seka gets 1.6 million hits a day with 375k alexa.. it's a special alexa spoofing spider thing she uses... ;)

V_RocKs 10-06-2009 01:10 AM

Her Alexa ranking tells otherwise.

RenegadeCash Mark 10-06-2009 01:20 AM

All bullshit, what a waste of internet. hahaha

Matt 26z 10-06-2009 01:50 AM

Big shows for consumers would be a good move forwards.

ParlourCash Karl 10-06-2009 02:10 AM

I think her site is http://www.seka.com and more info on her is at Wikepedia

Her numbers definitely do not add up to me either.

there is a lot of Seka content on the tubes ...

Sarah_Jayne 10-06-2009 04:07 AM

Fristly, it is good to know Seka is still alive. Secondly, it is funny they felt the need to say she was from Virginia.

The other day I noticed how much classic porn is showing up there. I was sort of wondering if it would create a new a fan base for those older stars from guys too young to have known them otherwise. If those fans would feel any actual need to pay is a different matter.

funny thing is if she was even dumber and 19 youd be sending your photographer to fuck her and talk her into a solo site.

TheDoc 10-06-2009 05:34 AM

Of course we are feeling the eco slowdown. The Internet isn't recession proof, thus Porn isn't recession proof.

The industry was slowing down a full year before the first illegal tube came around. Some rather short memories around here.
