David Letterman Sex Extortion Plot

http://img2.timeinc.net/people/i/200...kitt-2-320.jpg

Wow!

A "60 Minutes" producer was arrested for trying to extort/blackmail "Late Night" host David Letterman to the tune of $2 million, in order to keep secret Dave's sexual affairs with women that worked on the show.

Dave admitted to the charges - it will be interesting to see whether or not he can keep his job if it is determined that his actions amounted to sexual harrasment given his status as the women's boss. :helpme

Sarah Palin must be overjoyed... :Oh crap

Please, they won't fire Dave for porking an intern. He wasn't married at the time, there isn't even any shame - he's a rich guy tapping some available poon.

SHOCK - news at 11, rich guys are promiscuous.

H-Tom 10-02-2009 02:00 PM

Love the guy, best comic on TV!

LiveDose 10-02-2009 02:14 PM

Moral of the story is if you are butt ugly and rich you can still get pussy. Nice.

On his show last night, Letterman stated more than once that he had slept with "women" (plural) that work on his show, indicating that there were others he slept with besides the one identified in the extortion plot.

I'm not talking about morality here - I could care less who Dave sleeps with (well maybe with the exception of Paul Shaffer).

The larger issue (apart from the extortion attempt), is that Letterman was the employer/boss of the women. They could in all likelihood sue him and CBS. Therefore, CBS may choose to mitigate their potential liability by pre-emptively ousting Dave on the grounds of sexual harassment.

I think it's great that he came out and told everyone what he did. I don't blame the guy at all.

Dave makes around $35 million a year, which means he makes CBS significantly more. No idea what kind of damage a lawsuit like that could do financially, but I am willing to wager that CBS would be willing to put up with quite a bit of flak and still keep him around.

Phoenix 10-02-2009 03:35 PM

yeah and dave is just hired help...in the book sense of it

i think it will all work out nicely

You could be right...

Afterall, in Bill O'Reilly's sexual harassment case (although there was no actual sex there), O'Reilly kept his job.

http://img2.timeinc.net/people/i/200...5/boreilly.jpg

Quote:

On October 13, 2004, O'Reilly filed a preemptive lawsuit against Factor producer Andrea Mackris, her lawyer Benedict P. Morelli, and Morelli's law firm for extortion, contending Mackris had privately threatened to charge O'Reilly with sexual harassment unless he paid her more than $60 million (USD).

Later that same day, Mackris filed a complaint of sexual harassment against O'Reilly, contending that he had made sexually explicit phone calls, including a "vile and degrading monologue about sex."

O'Reilly denied engaging in any physical or sexual assault or "offensive touching." He also alleged that Mackris' motives were financial and political in nature. Both lawsuits were dropped after Fox News and O'Reilly agreed to pay Mackris an undisclosed settlement amount, which, according to the Washington Post, was likely millions of dollars.

Good for Dave. Make money, get your dick wet, thwart haters, and tell jokes. That's the essence of life.

RRACY 10-02-2009 03:46 PM

Dave could be fucking every man and woman on his staff and still keep his job. Dave Letterman is untouchable.

Don't confuse an intimate relationship with harassment.

So far the one chick who came out seems to still genuinely like the guy.

It's legal to fuck girls who work for you. It's illegal to harass them.

I don't see that happening. Settling quietly, out of court with strict gag orders (pun not intended) perhaps. Dave is also a victim of extortion as well as being extremely popular. CBS would be shooting themselves in both feet if they fired him.

czarina 10-02-2009 03:59 PM

eek, how can anyone bang that guy?

for $2 million may be....

amacontent 10-02-2009 04:26 PM

When there is an employer-employee relationship involved, the lines can get blurred. Many lawsuits have been lost, settlements paid out, and careers destroyed over such issues.

Letterman is lucky that he is a celebrity, otherwise getting caught with his Worldwide Pants down around his ankles, boinking the hired help, might cost him dearly in money, reputation and career.

In this culture, being a celebrity often is a license to get away with things which ordinary citizens might not.

Here is a clip of Stephanie Birkitt on Late Night:

Another article says The Late Show sells $145mil/year in advertising. And that was a previous year's number, now that Leno is gone, who knows?

Glenn Beck 10-02-2009 06:54 PM

Someone should arrest that filthy sex pervert

cykoe6 10-02-2009 07:30 PM

It will be fun to watch him be on the receiving end of all the jokes and snide remarks from now on....... we reap the harvest we have sown. :winkwink:

J. Falcon 10-02-2009 07:41 PM

Fuck that blackmailer, good to see him get arrested.

RRACY 10-03-2009 06:46 AM

It looks like the blackmailer's source was Stephanie.:error

Robert J. "Joe" Halderman, a producer for the true-crime show "48 Hours," pleaded not guilty in a Manhattan court as he was arraigned on one count of attempted first-degree grand larceny, punishable by five to 15 years in prison. Bail was set at $200,000.

Halderman's connection to Letterman was not immediately clear, but public records show that until August, he lived in Norwalk, Conn., with Stephanie Birkitt, a 34-year-old woman who works on the "Late Show" staff and used to work at "48 Hours."

Birkitt was an assistant to Letterman on the "Late Show" and frequently appeared on camera with the host in comedy bits. Last month, Birkitt moved to Manhattan's upper West Side. There was no answer Friday at a phone listed in her name.

It was also unclear how many women were involved in relationships with Letterman. All of the affairs took place before Letterman's marriage, said Tom Keaney, spokesman for Letterman's production company, Worldwide Pants.

CBS issued a statement Friday: "We think it was appropriate for Dave to disclose the matter publicly as he has, and we are continuing to cooperate with authorities."

TurboAngel 10-03-2009 07:21 AM

I'm happy to see you!

TheLegacy 10-03-2009 08:34 AM

David will keep his job - the public will side with David in his honesty and those extorting will be scum to the nation. David is well loved and anyone in power (celeb or otherwise) knows that they probably did the same thing and if they stand out against Dave that the same thing can happen to them.

BTW - they aren't going to fire him since another network will get him

I see why Letterman was tapping that. For her amazing dance moves and small boobs.

She was totally doing it for the money.

VeriSexy 10-03-2009 09:46 AM

Shes cute... I'd tap it too
