I type in Pirate Bay and it brings up results for the front page and several other pages. Is this just for UK?

brassmonkey 10-02-2009 09:04 AM

theirs other search engines

DaddyHalbucks 10-02-2009 09:04 AM

I don't think content theft will prove to be a viable long term business plan.

Iron Fist 10-02-2009 09:06 AM

Everyone has already bookmarked TPB....

Agent 488 10-02-2009 09:07 AM

.org not .com is gone.

Jakez 10-02-2009 09:08 AM

Is there a way to petition a site removal (with good reason) to Google?

closer 10-02-2009 09:09 AM

So all you content owners now know what to do, stop complaining and ACT :2 cents:

Agent 488 10-02-2009 09:09 AM

of course everyone knows what the pirate bay is but if you have brain you there are some interesting extrapolations from this.

seeric 10-02-2009 09:13 AM

pretty sure this is just spin from TPB for spotlight attention to potentially attract a new buyer. they've been out of the spotlight for a few.

everything else is still indexed, including all the serps for 1000's of torrents of porn movies.

i bet that google didn't even do it by hand, i bet the crawler didn't like something on the homepage and just dropped it from the index. that press is bogus. thats my opinion anyhow.

no big deal imho.

EscortBiz 10-02-2009 09:14 AM

damn if tubes get removed that would be amazing

umm... don't see a thing there

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...=&aqi= g5g-m5
Results 1 - 10 of about 12,100,000 from thepiratebay.org. (0.20 seconds)

WiredGuy 10-02-2009 10:53 AM

http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=...ct=all-results

11.9 million results from TPB. The article just says they removed TPB's homepage.

You can note that the main root is not included in that listing. So according to the article it is happening, but just removing the root does shit for the thousands of serps they ranks individual pages on.

Agent 488 10-02-2009 10:56 AM

yeah they removed like 7-8 pages including the .org root.

just like when perfect 10 get tons of sites root pages removed due to a largely bs copyright complaint.

Sarah_Jayne 10-02-2009 11:07 AM

Fob 10-02-2009 11:41 AM

Google won't take down the tubes from their listings. If they did, ppl might start using Bing! lol

Nautilus 10-02-2009 11:46 AM

When the damn thing will die already? They've got several court rulings against them including sentences, and yet it's up and running just fine. 7 pages that are rumored to be removed from google index, ridiculous.

Agent 488 10-02-2009 11:50 AM

wow it was remove your content who got thepiratebay.org removed.

yes thepiratebay.org was removed. google it.

czarina 10-02-2009 11:54 AM

and what were you doing looking for it on google?

Aussie Rebel 10-02-2009 12:19 PM

Hi Guys, We have had our Attorneys contact Google so this can be investigated thoroughly. I have posted a link to a pdf file that explains our side, Please dont ask me any question related to this matter as it is being fully investigated by both parties and I personally can not comment.

Thank you

Pirate Bay is first answer. So this doesn't address the "problem" at all.

This solution has been around along time. Since Perfect10 and their chilling effects some years ago. However, most people in this industry just complain on the GFY instead of doing anything about it.

This includes...

-Routinely sending DMCA's. Weekly/Monthly.
-Sending complaints to Google to have people removed from index.
-DMCA's registrars, processing companies, web hosts, and the rest.

If copyright holders did more, complained less, then you would see some results. Instead, most just complain, or rattle the sabre. Little more.

Oh that's right. Some left GFY for 2 days. My bad.

Holy shit! Google FINALLY did it!
Most of the damage is done already, of course. People know where to go for torrents.
But at least newbies will find it a tad more difficult to get their illegal downloads.
All those illegal torrent sites should be removed from the search engine indexes. It is really sickening to go through the first page results for certain keywords.

Miguel 10-03-2009 01:26 AM

well, great news!

TheDA 10-03-2009 02:58 AM

Not a bad bit of advertising for Remove Your Content me thinks.

blogsy 10-03-2009 03:04 AM

Manowar 10-03-2009 03:05 AM

Later, Google updated it's statement: "The removal appears to be an internal error and not part of a DMCA request."

Have any of you ever seen a site named YouTube?
Anyone ever looked at Google Books where they scan and publish entire books online without paying the authors a penny?

Google is not going to do a thing about content theft. They are the biggest content thieves on the planet. They index pics and vids and books and pay zero for the content so they can sell adwords advertising to an audience they entertain with everyone elses content.

How do people not see that? Why would Google destroy it's own business model?

Agent 488 10-03-2009 06:57 AM

fuck the stupidity in this thread is strong. like some kind of online test for retards, really ...
