Domains on backorder...
 

Does anybody ever get lucky and pick up good domains on backorder for cheap?

Unfortunately no... I've tried snapnames and godaddy many times and both ways failed... :(

For some reason, I am never the only one backordering / bidding at Namejet, even goofy names

What type of account do you use and how successful are your backorders in the end?

i use the platinum account every day & we are very successful at capturing names- not only do i see traffic statistics and other information, but i also see if the name is fair game, SnapNames auction, NameJet priority etc.. so i can really narrow in on how and where... we can hand reg a lot of names.

how does the godaddy backorder system work? does it just wait for an expiry, or does it actually actively seek out the current domain owner?

i like namejet and snapnames

even with godaddy you cannot be guaranteed you will acquire a name. i've won a few auctions there but the owners have i believe 6 days (not too sure) to reclaim it after the auction.

yeah, happened to me too, I won a pretty decent name and it got reclaimed a few days after they told me I had won it
