Do sponsers that control the merchant account really pay out those high PPS's?
In this economy and the downward spiral of adult sales due to, well, pretty much FREE porn anywhere you go online these days, my question is this:
I see a rash of "super sponsers" out there offering $ 50, $ 100, even $ 150 PPS to seduce new affiliates in to rep their sites. Now, please correct me if I'm wrong or way out of line, but...
If the sponser controls their own merchant account, how does the affiliate really know if they made a sale or not?
I understand by the use of NATS you can see the traffic you are sending them, but does NATS let you know if you made a sale? I've never used NATS and yes, I will admit I don't have the experience and knowledge in this area, so please don't freak out with me asking this question.
But it has been on my mind since I got started in this biz about a year ago.
We use CCBill for our affiliate program as I understand so many people feel safe with a 3rd party controlling the funds and dispursing the funds. But what of the many companies that "control their own funds and sales?"
Is there a way to really know if you made a sale with them or are we just relying on the company to not skim sales?
Reason I'm asking is, I just don't see how it's possible these companies can pay out such a high PPS on EVERY new sale an affiliate makes.
I would think a sponser would pay out a very small percentage of sales only, to keep the affiliate on the string, and skim the rest to make a profit.
If I'm waaaay out of line here, please correct me. I don't know how NATS really works. I'm just wondering how anybody really knows if they made a sale or not w/their high paying PPS sponser.
Something in the back of my mind never rests on this issue. Paranoia? Yes. Stupidity, yes, always... but I'd rather ask and look stupid, then be silent and ignorant.
Thanks for reading and your thoughts on this.
