I was contacted by Steve from Trafalgar Marketing and whatever programs he tries to run and asked if I could do a business site for him. I said yes and did the site but he never paid me.

He claims he sent the check 8 weeks ago so therefore the design belongs to him. there's no fucking way a check can be on its way for 8 fucking weeks. I could freaking walk to Egypt in less than 8 weeks with a check.

I NEVER saw any check of course and he won't take down the design.

What should I do? Contact his host?

The amount of money is not huge but I HATE getting cheated no matter how big the check is.

Tell him you never recieved the check and have him stop payment on it and send you another. If it has not been cleared yet he should have no problem with this. If he dosen't go to his house and take payment for services rendered. :winkwink:

He's full of shit. He doesn't "own" anything just because he claimed he sent a check. All he has to do is check with his bank and see if you cashed the check. If not, he should send another.

A site design is a creative work and is therefor subject to copyright law. It belongs to you until YOU transfer it to HIM in WRITING. If you did, it probably belongs to him even if he didn't pay for it. If not, it still belongs to you and you should have an attorney write him a scary letter pointing out that there could be damages in addition to paying for the work.
