Herschel Walker signs MMA contract...WTF?
http://www.cbssports.com/mma/story/12242977
The 47-year-old former NFL running back said Monday that he has signed a multi-fight contract with promoter Strikeforce. Walker will begin a 12-week training camp next month in San Jose, Calif. What fucking joke. I hope he gets knocked the fuck out and crippled. |

:Oh crap |
He prays to Chuck Norris at night and has fibers of Billy Mays beard sewn into his fighting trunks. He will go undefeated.
|
now why would you wish that?

Even if you are a gators fan, knocked out is one thing - crippled is still fucked up.
Hell I am crippled and I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy, yet you would over a football team. |
Lol,now that will be interesting

Who said I am unsatisfied with my life, I have always been satisfied to hate him and any other shit that came from University of Georgia. |

Strikeforce isn't going to make mint off Herschel Walker, and at best they can hope for a bit of a ratings boost on the card he is fighting and some mainstream press. Again, good for him for having the balls to give it a shot and testing himself again at an advanced age. Why bother? Because he can... |

The same shit happened with Kimbo. They fed him guys he could and should beat until Seth sent him down for the nap. If Herschel wants to truly fight MMA, cut your teeth on the indie circuit like those that have paid their dues for a while. |

Walker was my idol in junior high/HS. His work out plan forever was strictly 2000 push-ups/2000 sit-ups daily.. at least that's what he said at a football camp I attended.
That became my work out for about 8 months + running. Then I got into free weights(this was in 8th grade, mind you.. ) ah.. the days when I was a machine. damn beer and work. With that said, I think he'll do okay. The guy is a horse. |
Prerequisite for MMA in 2009
BJJ at least at the brown belt level(training at least 4 time a week). Wrestling at a college level(take down/sprawl class at least three times a week). Boxing/Muay Thai/Striking Arts at least eveyday(technique/light sparring) with one or two days of lives sparring. MMA three time a week with all the ingredients and stir(80 to 60 percent punch power) full submissions. |
It's Strikeforce, outside of Fedor they're all a bunch of bums. He could realistically have a shot if he trains.

MMA is the new cool thing...
|
strikeforce sucks.. them adding an aged athlete who's trying to make a few bucks doing MMA sucks... and him getting his ASS pumpled in the first round with a punch to the face will be AWESOME.
go back and collect that NFL pension old man... MMA's not for you |
more power to Herschel, pulling for him.... :thumbsup
|
I bet no knows where MMA started.

Modern MMA as we know it now, ala UFC, is from VALE TUDO in Brazil. VALE TUDO in Portuguese means "Anything goes". |

As for his training, he's a 6th Degree Blackbelt in Tae Kwo do, and has been training MMA for the past 8 years as a hobby. I personally would have fought before 8 years, but to each their own. |
Might as well post it, as it pertains to this thread.

Herschel Walker is an elite athlete, and maybe MMA is for him, and maybe it isn't, and maybe he has a good showing or maybe he goes the "Johnnie Morton" route and gets KO'd. But when couch potatoes try and tell someone that is a "doer" and has succeeded at everything he has ever tried that they know something is not "for him" I get really annoyed... |
Well, I did some research and found that he already holds a fifth-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do, so he might not be a pushover.

I still feel its a young man's sport. My kid has been wrestling since he was 5 years old. He does BJJ, Muay Thai and kettlebells just for fun.
I can't see an athlete of yesteryear match up with an MMA fighter who has been practicing their whole lives. |
hopefully the man makes it out of the ring
