How very interesting. You are probably correct, "attempts to terminate the processes of various antivirus and firewall programs." In my case the attempt was apparently successful. The "Amigos" are free to ride again in peace.
I orginally thought I had been hacked but this could very well be the culprit. If so, it snuck by Norton Antivirus and disabled Zone Alarm Pro, deleted the logs and apparently screwed up system files. I had to reformat.

Isn't this the thread where you should be apologizing for throwing around baseless accusations and threats of retaliation at certain people on this board for hacking your box?

What certain people do you think I owe an apology too. I did not recall having accused any individual.

Well....one of you "Amigos" caused me an inconvenience?. To the proud actor/actors that did this just remember what goes around comes around.

Sorry my mistake. It was just a blanket accusation and threat of retaliation covering everyone on the board.

suesheboy 12-09-2002 06:42 PM

Cut to the chaas:

1) how did you know you had it?

2) Did norton fix it?

For anyone still having trouble with viruses in Outlook, simply get rid of the preview pane.

Then when you want to open a message, first right click on the message properties and view the source code. I don't use any antivirus software, but since I started doing this I have no problems. I usually get 5 to 10 viruses sent to me every day.

The preview pane is what fucks you with these autoexecuting viruses.

Ad3pt 12-09-2002 07:37 PM

A lot of that shit comes off Kazzaa. It could have been avoided by keeping your windoze up to date and don't open bullshit attachments. Even if they look like their from someone you know.

:2 cents:

I don't use Kazza, I never open attachments and I check for window updates weekly.

.:Frog:. 12-09-2002 08:00 PM

You guys still use outlook?
:eek7

evildick 12-09-2002 08:00 PM

It's the autoexecuting ones that don't show as having an attachment that get you.

All you have to do is open the message. If you have the preview pane option on (it is on by default) then you can't even delete it without it infecting you.

The best software firewall out there is Tiny Personal Firewall 4.0 - HANDS DOWN. I think its like $39 or something.. but its just looooney with the features.

You can get 2.0.15 (the last freeware version) here:
http://www.gwdg.de/samba/windows/persfw/

(note: The above url was found on google, its not mine. So if you play with any of the other stuff there and its evil or something don't blame me. I know that that 1.35 meg 2.0.15 pf2.exe was safe though) :)

or search on google:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&l...TF-8&q=pf2.exe

For decent FREE virus scanner check out:

AVG Antivirus

Yeah those new virii with anti-anti viris technology really suck. I that W32.whatever one. Everytime I booted up nortons in xp, after 5 seconds the viris closed it down it disabled all scanning. I could still get the net so I downloaded nortons fix for it off the net and installed via safemode but it still screwed up half my program files programs and made the whole system very unstable.
Format : C only real fix

I think we should shoot all virus writers or perhaps slowly torture them to death. Nothing pisses me off more than having to waste time installing shit I already installed.

Interesting, but if the damage is already done I don't see that it would be of much use.
