Addicted to Powder
I never even saw snow falling from the sky until last year. Now I find myself shopping for a snowboard/bindings/boots, and choking on the prospective $600 investment (not even including lift tickets).
But I have no choice. I've been captivated by the frosty zen that is a snowdrenched mountainside. The crunch of snow packing underfoot, crystal breath hovering before my face seconds before carving heelside down a slope. I've tasted the Ambrosia, and I need an IV. Do you know what I mean? I want to experience so much more of the frosty outdoors. It's like there's an entire heart-pounding life that I've been missing out on, and I'm ready to strap in. What will you be doing this season? What sports rock the fiber of your soul? |
I wonder how many guys will post "ultimate fighting" at an attempt to impress you :1orglaugh

i always get a season pass to Arizona Snowbowl... my father lives in Tahoe so i always have somewhere to stay up there in CA.... so all in all that is what i will be doing in the next few months. :thumbsup

I goto tahoe and smowboard very soon! I went to college in crested butte Co.
Love to snowboard. |
I can drive one way and snowboard all day.
I can drive the other way and surf. I can drive the other way and hit vegas. Gravity is the only enemy. |
It's seriously got a hold on me...
F*ck Rehab, Give me snow. |

Ouch ~ now that's risking some brutal rasberries.

I was bitten by the snowboard bug last January when we went to Switzerland for a fantastic week's holiday on the slopes. I got pregnant in April and haven't been on a board since. I'm going crazy!!!:helpme
My husband has been frequenting the indoor snow slopes here in England over the last year, practicing and keeping himself in a groove. In fact his new board arrived on the doorstep today and we'll be buying him bindings/boots/bag/etc in the New Year before he jets off again to the Alps (after the baby is born of course). It'll be another 4 months at the minimum before I can get back on the snow and I'm sure I'll be rusty as hell but I am really looking forward to it. Have fun Cheshire, and cherish that you are so near to mountains. :thumbsup |
We surf here in FL :thumbsup But snowboarding looks like alot of fun. I've got to try it sometime :)
|
we need pictures to prove you are a snowboarder
we need pictures, i'm tired of looking at pictures of nude chicks, turns me on more just to look at pretty girls in clothes what is Arizona SnowBowl? Where in Arizona is there snow? Is it one of those fake snow things? |

Surfing vs. Snowboarding;
Surfing is easier to pick up, and a softer landing when you ditch... but with Snowboarding you have complete control over your ride; How long or short, fast or slow, the way it feels, and how simple or complex a path you'll take. You make it happen, you literally carve it out of the mountain. I'm 1.5 hours from either one, but I'd have to vote North. |
Snow is cool. The cold sucks.

yea, snow is definitely fun untill you get too much of it |
Thats the joy of Vancouver - the snow is so close but there is none in Vancouver itself - just on the mountains.
You can even take public transit to get to the slopes. You should see all the ESL students and high school kids at the bus stops with boards.... :thumbsup |

Whistler is world F**ing class, darlin'. That's one of two places I learned to Snowboard. If Whistler's too costly then try Sunshine or Lake Louise, Also world class. Yep. Western Canada, baby. That's all I'm sayin. |
I count mid-week night skiing at the Mt. Shasta resort as one of the benefits of adult webmastering.
I've had the whole damn place to myself from 7pm onwards on a midweek night a few times. Crusing some of the long intermediate runs they close at night by moonlight is fun, and if its not too windy the lit up West facing black diamond runs are good 'till closing. If you're willing to buy a pair of crampons and an ice axe you can ski/snowboard Avalanche Gulch and the Hotlum/Bolam glacier route on Shasta year round. I've been up there a few times, and there is nothing like descending 10,000 vertical feet from a 14,000ft summit. Skiing in a resort cannot provide you with experiences like that. Getting to the summit will thoroughly kick your ass if you aren't in great aerobic shape, but its good exercise :thumbsup |
Cheshire - one of my boys is a total snowboard 5 days a week guy. I was justr at his house about 30 mins ago he showed me his new Burton he got for 100 bucks, his buddy owns a Snowboard supply store, it was demo, but had no damage. 100 bucks.
hehehe He also gave my some bomb ass buds from Humboldt. yayaeeee. \X/ :smokin |
Someone tell it to snow in whistler, I will be there very soon!

Ahh, powder!
The feel of the new snow gear when you first put it on... The exhiliration of the lift going up a freshly packed hill... The workout you get skiing and boarding til your face is red with burn... The warmth you feel when you get out of the wet and cold gore tex... The relaxation of the nap that you take when you hit the bed after undressing... The feel of the jacuzzi you jump in after dinner... The intoxication of the drinks that hits you after drinking in the hot water... The hot sex that normally follows. Guess which part of it is my favorite. |
I've been snowboarding exactly once in my life, and I liked it a lot... but I'm a much better skier, so that's what I always end up doing. I'll give snowboarding another go one of these days.
As for my passion, that's easy... scuba diving :thumbsup |
I live in Wisconsin, and I fuckin hate snow.

Warm powder =
Close your eyes, you are weightless, back to the womb. Open your eyes, dazzling blue reflection, from the surface, pulling, air pressing your lungs at odd angles, elongate, reach, continuous muscle, reach, long sinuous thrust. Breathe. |

No way. As far as which is easier to "pick up" if you talking about a surfing a long board, maybe. Hell, anyone can jump on a long board and rides the waves the first day they try. It's like standing on a boat in the water...nothing to it. A short board? No way.....that like standing on thin 2x4. I've been surfing since i was 8 years old, and nothing was tougher to learn when it comes to balance. As far as "wiping out," between snowboarding and surfing, they can't be compared. From surfing, I've had stiches everwhere from rocks and coral, numerous near drowning experiences, crushed by waves, and tons others. From snowboarding, broken bones, etc, etc. Both hurt just as equal. Keep this in mind. I would rather have a hard fall on the snow anyday then to EVER experience what's it like to nearly drown. Especially knowing that once you pop your head out of the water in exhaustion to take a breath, another monster wave is on it's way to push you back under..then another, then another. Quote:
Most people will swear by snowboarding, but then again, most people have never has them themselves inside a wave curl, completely surrounded by water, seeing the end of the tunnel 10-15 feet in front of you, looking down to see the fish below your fins and the coral, while dragging your hand in the wave beside you to slow yourself down......never wanting to leave. It's a place and a time that is seriously uncomparable to anything... |
my sport's more dangerous than yours lol.
the avalanches rule!! |

been there done that..learned to snowboard some 8 years ago....did 900s, rodeos, all type of tricks....back to skiing from last year

hehe....haven't had the pleasure of that yet Quiet, but try being chased by thousands of gallons of solid ocean water. If you bail and don't land correctly, you'll be crushed. Tons of reports of broken backs, etc from nothing but water. hmmmm....crushed by a monster wave and drown, or being buried alive and suffocated by an avalanche. Damn. lol. What a choice! Shit, I don't think i can make that choice even if i had to choose. When in doubt, KiteBoard! Good for ocean riding and snow! Ever snowboarded uphill? Man, i can't wait to give that a go. :) |
