I think its OK - think its time to start taking steps against crime. Let them know the police is there, and give the average person some signs that the goverment wants to fight crime

thier new law sounds better than the homeland security act where our government is keeping track of everything about us, even our spending. the only difference is that the russians are doing it the hard way, going door to door.

Exactly what I was thinking. If some Joe cop tried to force me to answer personal questions like that here, he's have to wait for my lawyer to show up. Law abiding citizens should not be harassed by the police like that.

Not anymore dude... Now that we have the Homeland Securitry Bill enacted our government can legally start doing this anytime they feel like it. Whats even better is if they decide by talking to you that you're a threat to the safety of Americans then they can arrest you and even have you executed without ever even having to tell your next of kin, let alone a lawyer. Hopefully we're a long way from that but bottomline, they could legally do it today if they felt so inclined.
