hosting with unitedcolo.com

are they good , bad, ugly?

Anyone that currently host with them or hosted before could tell me anything about them?

Thank you.

Wilbo 12-09-2002 12:29 PM

I host with them and am quite happy.

DjSap 12-09-2002 12:34 PM

not so good, expect alot of downtime....

49thParallel 12-09-2002 12:38 PM

I tried them for a week. In pre-sales correspondance, they said they would have server up within 24 hours...took 73 hours. They also said they would add my domains to their nameservers within 24 hours...still wasn't completed after 5 days. So, I cancelled, before ever using the server. They still billed me.

Kinder 12-09-2002 12:41 PM

sounds pretty ugly. Anyone else which knows them?

Kinder 12-09-2002 12:56 PM

what about the tech support?

assneck 12-09-2002 01:04 PM

i would say they are a no go. i tried to host with them and had the exact same experience as 49th paralell. their connection seems really slow too.

thank you guys for helping me avoid to do make a big mistake.
Their prices are unusual low. I figured that something is not working quite well around there.

Anyone else know things about them?

Kinder 12-09-2002 03:06 PM

well?

Rodent 12-09-2002 03:24 PM

They get ddos attacked on a weekly basis.

Kinder 12-09-2002 03:35 PM

very funny, but I'm not laughing here.

Wilbo 12-09-2002 04:00 PM

They have improved immensely over the last month. They had a big problem with people getting their $49 servers and disrupting the entire network. It's a new company. I just shipped a server there for a colo.

49thParallel 12-09-2002 04:05 PM

Kinder...I'm curious..you have 3 people so far that have recommended against them..and you have another hosting company's ad in your signature...is there an alternative motive...

who else has 99$ servers besides rackshack?....how can you expect to have a decent host only charge you 99$ for a dedicated server & 500gigs....

come the fuck on....too good to be true...always is

Kinder 12-09-2002 04:14 PM

I have a 10mbps server with Rackshack but the monthly bill is double comparing with the unitedcolo.com offers. Also in my sig is a comapny that offer only virtual accounts.
I hope this answer your question.

Anyway after reading your posts I doubt that I will change my current host.
I expect other people to post their experiences though.

49thParallel I appreciate all the details you gave me reagarding this company.

and don't forget that they offer a better deal then rackshack on the 99$ servers. Very fishy indeed Pro.

No problem...

Another company that you might be interested in....www.thumbserver.com. I haven't hosted with them, but their prices also seem quite good. And I have read a number of other posts on this board that seem to recommend them.

datahosters also offers low prices. But, I tried to set up with them, and their Paycom merchant account simply wouldn't accept my billing info. At the time, I was looking for 2 dedicated boxes with 10 mbps each..but they didn't seem interested in checking with Paycom to see why my card wasn't accepted..so I walked away...but they might still be a good company.

49thParallel 12-09-2002 04:23 PM

I should add, in case you weren't aware...this is why I believe united colo is so cheap:

Their servers are 100% unmanaged. No monitoring...no tech support...and only Webmin to add domains. And after 5, if you have a serious problem, the only thing the tech support can do is do a manual reboot for you.

same sad story it happens to me with 2checkout.com and with Jettis. They always reject my CC info. I'm curious that paycom does that too...

www.thumbserver.com charge double then rackshack for a 10mbps server. Thanks for the tip anyway.
