Does Your Site Rank for the Keyword 'Porn' in Google?

Hello All,

I'm trying to show my superiors how much traffic can be gained by being listed for the keyword 'Porn'.

Currently we are sitting in about position number 400 for the keyword and we actually get a handful of clicks per month. This is not much traffic, but if I can get our site ranking in the first 100, I think it will be worth it.

What I'm looking for is for you to post your site or contact info if you are listed in the top 100 or so for the keyword 'Porn'. That way if I can put enough information together based on some traffic stats, I will be able to convince my superiors that we should target this keyword.

At the moment my boss doesn't think its worth targeting this keyword in Google because of the number of competing websites.

The goal is to show him that the traffic is worth the time, effort and most importantly money.

Please help me prove him wrong.

Thanks.

So let me just make sure I have this absolutely straight. You want other people, who are ranking better than you are for a keyword to help provide you with the proof you need to get your boss's blessing to then compete for the same keyword?

That's just priceless.

Obviously, they are your 'superiors' for a good reason.

well "porn" is not that bad... 22,000,000 results. i have a blog in first 10 for a keyword with similar amount of competitors. now "porno" has over 150,000,000 - that's definitely farting to the moon :winkwink:

semnate 09-16-2009 07:21 PM

theres a lot of sites that are in the top 100 that dont offer any contact info.

those are the sites im looking to get in touch with.

one person has told me that when ranked in the 60's that produced about 200 uniques per day but the traffic wasnt very sticky. it had low pageviews per visit, and low time on site.

kane 09-16-2009 07:42 PM

Here. I got it all handled for you.

According to Google keyword tool the term 'porn' is searched around 226 million times per month. That is about 7.53 million times per day. There are around 207 million indexed pages for the term porn.

Around 80% of the searchers will click one of the top 5 results. That means spots 6- 207 million share the remaining traffic. Is it worth your time to get a piece of it? Maybe. But that question is best answered by knowing what type of content you have. just because a lot of people are searching for porn using that keyword it doesn't mean that your site will actually have something they want.

In the end your bosses are probably right.

To be fair google traffic coverts just as well from page 300 as it does from page 1.

jstallion1 09-16-2009 07:52 PM

That is a hand full of optimizing!

IntenseCash 09-16-2009 07:55 PM

How about trying to target less searched keywords more targeted to your sites?

You have any idea how much work it really is to get a site ranked for that keyword.

Agent 488 09-16-2009 08:09 PM

don't fuck around. try to get in the top three for "porn."

tell your boss you should get a sale a day out of it.

96ukssob 09-16-2009 08:13 PM

I am ranked top 20 for the word "porn" and get roughly 9 visitors a day. Its not worth SEO-ing over, trust me :thumbsup

Agent 488 09-16-2009 08:19 PM

if you are not kidding, what site is that?

This is completely false.

I will see conversions at 1/300 for a term in 1st, and it will slide to as low as 1/2k at bottom of first page.

Every spot you fall beneath the first spot you lose conversion. The traffic quality depreciates as the surfers click through the other results above you.

Imagine running a shoe store on a one way street that only has 10 shoe stores. The guy at the top of the street is going to sell more shoes then the guy at the end of the street. All those buyers have to drive past 9 other shoe stores to get to that 10th store.

unless the parking lot is at the end :winkwink:

Exactly.. I remember back in the days running a PPC campaign which happened to have the word "porn" and "porno" in it....I remember I had a fairly action-targeted LP but regardless.... that was the fastest way I have ever seen money go down the drain......

Incidentally I had a 3 word long tail that did awesome and helped me recoup 2/3 of the losses... yeap... valuable learning experience that was.....

Basic_man 09-17-2009 03:07 PM

You rank #400 and get traffic from Google with keyword "porn" ?? I'm pretty sceptical !

Nice numbers. Pornhub has been ranked #1 for that keyword for a long time. Having 7.53 million people see your site first every day in google is bank.

yep. I'm not 100% sure the numbers are 100% accurate, they are just what the google adsense keyword tools claims, so it is probably pretty spot on. That is a lot of nice traffic, I just wonder how productive it is.

smutnut 09-17-2009 04:04 PM

if it does it's not a secret :1orglaugh and thus suprise me with a new keyword please! :thumbsup

Agent 488 09-17-2009 04:10 PM

if you seriously don't think they are making bank of being number one for "porn" in google .... i don't know what to say. i hope this is a joke post.

I submit free sites to Penis Bot. It's in the top 10 for "Porn".

When my freesite is listed on the index or home page.

I receive 400- 500 hits to the free site. Good traffic and some sales :thumbsup

smutnut 09-17-2009 04:24 PM

Are people here complaining? I don't get it all!

Agent 488 09-17-2009 04:26 PM

to put it another way ... if you are smart enough to get your site number one for porn you should be smart enough to find away to convert that traffic.

still find it incredible that if people cannot do something they think it cannot be done or it's some kind of hoodwink or flim flam show. whatever.

I guess what I meant to say is I wonder how productive that much traffic from such a generic keyword is as compared to a comparable amount of traffic from more targeted keywords.

I would assume 'porn' is going to include a lot of users from all over the world who have no credit card and no way to bill them as well as an enormous amount of freeloaders that have no intention of every paying for anything. Still, it is a sweet keyword and I'm sure anyone, myself included, would learn to live with the bad side of it just to get that placement.

Agent 488 09-17-2009 04:47 PM

no point getting into a argument about how many signups are on the head of a serp. good luck with your future endeavors.

I'm not arguing, I just wondered how productive the traffic was and you seem to think I am an idiot for wondering it.

I make about 70% of my income from SE traffic and I have some sites that get traffic from Google that is very productive and do well for me and I have others that get about the same amount of traffic, but for different keywords and it isn't nearly as good.

If I could get the #1 spot on Google for porn and keep it for months and months like pornhub has I would take it, as would just about anyone. I'm just curious how productive it ends up being. I'm not saying having it is bad, I am just wondering.

Agent 488 09-17-2009 05:56 PM

it's like megan fox having her ass in your face and you wondering, "hmm, i dunno, i wonder how that ass would taste."

do you think people would bother to do fanatical and aggressive multi-year link building campaigns if they weren't making bank? where there is smoke there is fire ....

hey just want to mention that the ranks are way different locally at G, different at USA, UK, CA even at different states different results, your browser difference even effects it and it plays serious role when its about a keyword like "porn" searched like millions but do not be fool to be have all the records given by G about this keyword, they are all in total and it is impossible you to get them all, maybe 1/1000
