Illegal Downloaders Face Internet Ban in France

PARIS ? A bill has passed France's lower house of parliament that would cut off Internet access to surfers who download illegally.
About 1,000 French Internet users a day could be taken offline under the bill. Surfers who ignore email warnings and a registered letter could see their online connections suspended for up to a year, and they could also face up to $ 435,000 in fines or jail time.

The Senate approved a compromise version of a more robust bill in July, and the National Assembly followed suit Tuesday, with a 285-225 vote. The bill must clear at least one more vote to become law.

With the legislation, French Internet subscribers would be asked to install special software to enable authorities to track down and identify those suspected of illegal downloads.

The law is expected to start being enforced by the end of the year.

No
You can have if you want a software that filters the legal and the illegal content for you to prevent to have you internet connection stopped.
Anyway this law is unconstitutional.
Wait and see.

A- Here is a product you must subscribe to and pay for.

B- Here are the parameters for using the product.

I don't see what is wrong with that.

This is old news. Hadopi 1 was passed, then knocked down because disabling someone's internet is deemed unconstitutional.

Hadopi 2 has been passed, but instead of disconnection, it's fines.

still unconstitutional for me, because you have to prove that you are innocent.

Unenforceable, unethical, and an infringement of civil liberties and privacy.

How do you think they prove someone's guilt?

Even if they get to an IP of someone downloading an ALLEDGED copyrighted file they would then have to:

a) sniff all P2P traffic, download it, put it together, see if it is a real file
b) get the IP of the person who is paying the bill for the connection
c) go there
d) get all hard drives
e) find file on hard drive

this is not taking into account open wifi access points, hacked wifi access points, spoofed IPs, friends/family etc visiting and using his access point etc etc etc

It's fucking ridiculous.

according to the law you have to control your connection so that nobody can use it to download copyrighted content. So if you are a hacker you can put your neighbourhood into trouble.

Of course by copyrighted i mean, content of powerful people, i suppose like Carla Bruni Sarkozy's friends for example.
Not for me.
