how successful will my Operation Secret Santa be?

I'm the nicest guy ever so this is going to be my first Xmas giving back, whatever that means. I'm taking $5k,picking 5 families that I know arent that fortunate in my area(already know them so I know the situations) and I'm spending a grand on all of the families.Dropping the presents off at the doorstep and hauling ass,no recognition needed.... How well will this turn out? lol

Reason I'm doing this is because when I was growing up I had A LOT of friends that didnt have much so on christmas when I was bragging about all the shit I got I would ask them and this one guy sticks out...All he got was chinese checkers and a jacket :( I felt bad, still do and always wanted to do something back then but couldnt obviously...so this is pay back!

suggestions? comments? God-like praise?

All he got was a jacket & checkers? :1orglaugh

He was warm all winter & had a mind sharpening game to play. In fact, i bet he has a job now as a research analyst for an aircraft company.

That poor bastard!

railz 12-09-2002 03:56 AM

Amen - good on yah.

I'm taking my old DVD player and a few disney movies to the children's ward this week and giving it to them as my Xmas gift to the community.

Yeah, nice guys might come last but the assholes can have the recognition for all I care.

stevo 12-09-2002 06:08 AM

Thats pretty cool of you :thumbsup if only everyone was as generous!

Slick 12-09-2002 06:16 AM

Hey, that's a great thought. My wifey thought of doing something like that, not as generous as you though, he he he. She thought about picking out a name of someone that lives in an elderly home and sending them a gift or a couple of bucks to help them out.

My wife used to do home health care for a while there and she used to have to hit up a couple of elderly homes and she said a couple of them had no kids, so they were alone for the holidays, I'm sure even a card would cheer them up.

I'm glad that I have 3 kids. Hopefully they go out and have lots and lots of grandkids (when their of age of course, ha ha ha) to take care of me when I'm old and alone.

That's a very cool thing you're doing. Makes me feel all warm and tingly inside toward you.

Just be careful creeping around people's front door all early in the morning. Wouldn't want Santa to get :ak47:

nocostporn 12-09-2002 01:04 PM

very cool thing to do! :thumbsup

RATBOY 12-09-2002 01:44 PM

First off, Kudos. Great thing man.

Second, 1000 bucks each family? Hope they appreciate it. I would have bought 5000 worth of stuff and dropped them off at a Toys for Tots collection point (Most Marine Corps recruiting stations have them). Of course I am a dirtbag slimeball who would spend it all on himself anyway, so just ignore me. And they all go to someplace where you know they are super-destitute. Like shelters and burn-centers where they have more important shit to buy besides X-mas gifts.

Toys for Tots

macroguru 12-09-2002 03:34 PM

Back in 1984 my parents divorced, and my dad left the state. He only had to pay $300 a month in Child Support to my mom for the 3 of us.

She was working 2 jobs, and going to school to get her nursing degree.

Well, it wasn't to fun, and we were down and out, hanging on by the skin of our teeth just to keep our home.

One night, during christmas, we came home, and their was 5 boxes of groceries, clothes, and toys on our porch. My mom lost it, she was in tears, thanking everyone she could think of.

I found out my senior year in high school what family did that four us, and I was able to return the deed to them, by assisting their mother in a time of need, as their father was lost in a car accident. It has stuck out in my mind, since then, and I have installed a sense of helping into my children as well. Every year, my kids take some of their allowance money, and buy 1 or 2 toys, and we give to the Toys for Tots program. I also assist once a week at the local homeless shelter.

I will tell you know, you are a great person, and I for one appreciate what you are doing for those 5 families, and they will never forget you. I promise

Back in the days when I was about the most broke ass motherfucker on the planet, someone slipped a $100 bill under our door. Not much but we were able to eat for a few days. Never did figure out who it was.
