dyna mo 09-10-2009 09:55 AM

well, i bet they won't sit her next to simon.

i'm going to miss the exchanges b/w him and paula, i always got a kick outta those!

flashfire 09-10-2009 10:01 AM

how is she qualified to judge a singing competition

Tom_PM 09-10-2009 10:02 AM

How is it possible to call it a singing competition? It's clearly not.

FrozenJag 09-10-2009 10:05 AM

Way to kill a good show Fox. Nice work! Fuskers. :[

born2blog 09-10-2009 10:33 AM

won't be the same show

ProG 09-10-2009 10:41 AM

So they go from a psycho with a drug problem to a woman that wants a penis. Whoop-de-fucking-do.

justinsain 09-10-2009 10:41 AM

While Ellen isn't an expert in singing I think she is highly qualified to judge showmanship and that is part of the judging. As long as she doesn't turn it into a comedy routine and she judges seriously I think the show will do ok. They will certainly get a mass audience for the first few shows to see how she does.

What I found really amusing was the fact that Paula now wants to create her own singing competition show that will rival and surpass American Idol :upsidedow

Tom_PM 09-10-2009 10:58 AM

I'd watch that show again if they skipped all the idiots in the beginning and started the COMPETITION at the final 12.

Break off the sideshow baloney for the rubberneckers to it's own show.

iTouch! 09-10-2009 11:02 AM

god that bitch is fucking annoying

Ummm..... why don't you just start watching the show when it gets down to the top twelve :winkwink:

Bama 09-10-2009 11:10 AM

What a CRAPPY choice for the new judge. Ellen is funny sure and without a doubt some of the contestants comical but here's my problem with Ellen - and it stems all the way back to her sitcom.

It was entertaining and no one gave a damn if she was gay to:

She made damned sure you knew she was gay and couldn't care less if you were entertained

Show got canceled and then tried to use the gay card to call foul...

That's exactly what we do, heck sometimes we wait until it's down to 10.

Eye of the beholder. I thought the show was entertaining in both "phases" and actually more interesting after the formal outing, because it gave it license to cover some relevant topics. And I'm straight. But like I say, eye of the beholder.

I do question having a comic and talk show host judge a musical talent show when there are certain criteria including tone, pitch, presence on stage, sellable to public etc etc that need to be focused on. Ellen although a great individual hasn't a clue how to run or participate in the music industry when it comes to finding talent and the marketing to the public. The move is merely to maintain viewers they fear they will loose with Abdul since it's now politically incorrect to hate a gay person much less someone who is loved by public.

iTouch! 09-10-2009 12:20 PM

i rather see carrot top host it

GrouchyAdmin 09-10-2009 12:22 PM

Now all they need to do is replace the other judges with Rosie and Gilbert.

I find it funny that you say she " hasn't a clue how to run or participate in the music industry when it comes to finding talent and the marketing to the public." when she hosts a daily talk show where she has at least one musical act perform per show and they are usually the biggest names in the industry. Along with the shows already mentioned she has also emceed the biggest awards show as well. It is silly to deny her the entertainment credibility she has rightfully earned.

Ellen admitted that she wasn't an expert on singing and she knew nothing about tone and pitch. She said she would be there from the fans perspective, judging them on their presence and appeal. She said she'll leave the technical stuff to the experts.

Her purpose will be to add to the judging panel's dynamic and present a different perspective than the others.

Yep, I tried it last season, but I honestly (seriously) didnt care for any of the finalists :(
I didnt HEAR anything special, and I didnt care about their "stories".

I'm an outsider. :helpme

Spunky 09-10-2009 01:17 PM

Another reason to not watch it

dyna mo 09-10-2009 01:20 PM

the show is a search for the next pop star.

they certainly have to be able to sing but there's also a certain je ne cest quois factor that actually gives the winner pop star potential.

Interviewing and actually making it your life's work I feel are two different things. If it's a musical talent search then why do we need someone to talk about the fans perspective when clearly the voting structure is in place to give that result. I still feel that you do need technical and music industry people judging the contest since they are the one's who know what works and doesn't or if the person has the right character and stage presence.

Being a judge isn't as much about giving a different perspective as much as judging the merits as to whether the person IS an actual future player in the music industry and even they get it wrong sometimes - remember the Beatles were turned away when they first auditioned for a record company.

PornMD 09-10-2009 02:56 PM

The only "judging" they actually do is early in the competition when the choices are generally "sings like shit, they're out" or "sings ok or sings well, they're in"...any of us could probably judge the beginning phases. Later on it's all votes and sure the judges' inputs influence the voting a bit, but not that much IMO. Ellen will represent the everyman/everywoman perspective i.e. what any of us who have little or no musical background would think about their singing.

Having said that, I hope she doesn't try to do too much comedic stuff because she's honestly not that funny anymore IMO. Anything but Paula though, she was atrocious. The only thing worse is that Paula impersonator on So You Think You Can Dance...the difference being Paula's just high and drunk or something whereas this other woman is just a fucking nutsoid "high on life" type...I must have purged her name out of my memory because I can't remember it but god, every time she opens her mouth it's like MUUUUTE!

She won't be any less of a judge than Paula "say something positive about everyone no matter how shitty they sang" Abdul. She was a waste of fucking space on that show despite her musical background.

I think you're putting too much into the judging part of the show. The Idol hopefuls first are screened by people we never see. Those that make it past them go in front of the judges to see who gets to go to LA. Then those judges pick who will be the top finalists and then the voting public picks the winner.

They used to have three judges for many seasons. Then they added a fourth last season. A girl with the musical knowledge you require. I look at Ellen as being a " token " fourth judge that will add a different perspective to the judging group much like a color commentator on a sports broadcast. She's not there for her expertise, she's there to be entertaining. She has a quick wit and should always have something to add and she knows enough about the music industry to not make any stupid decisions.

I really don't think she will be put in a position where her vote decides the fate of a contestant.

VeriSexy 09-11-2009 03:25 AM

Exactly - that was the point I was trying to make - she's a "token" judge to keep the masses of American's coming back to the show. Replace "america's" sweetheart musician who is positive with another american favorite who is positive and funny yet with musical knowledge only by association.

I am not disagreeing with you, my understanding is that she was behind the scenes helping the contestants from dancing to singing. She did also show up on stage a few times (even with Randy) when she came out with her album last year I think. Yet her "sins" of drinking or possible drugs I don't know seemed to haunt her as she sat on the panel while America wondered the same question,"what the hell is she on?" as she appeared drunk or spacey in her answers to the point that she made the other judges uncomfortable and awkward

I am glad she's gone and I do hope Ellen will bring some much needed "one liners" and knock Simon down a few notches

brassmonkey 09-11-2009 07:12 AM

get ready for alot of gay dancing bullshit i wont be watching it
