not really a secret backdoor, it is published all over. btw that invite me page is taking people forever to get one, actually have not heard of a single person getting it via that invite. most everyone got their account from grancentral 2 years ago.

I signed up on that page and got an invite within a week.

I use it... been using the # on my social profiles, people that purchase stuff, etc.. with a quick note, sms/text me and the #.

People seem to like it, makes it seem like they have a stronger connection to me directly.

Took me a week as well. Way to not get the joke about it being a "secret." :P

odd, those i have spoken with have had poor results with it.
i already have a whole slew of accounts. i signed up a bunch of times two years ago.

Being in or out of the US is not a problem. There are several programs around which will fake your IP, at least good enough for G**gle to belive you're in the US and allow you to sign up. Works good for watching Youtube clips out of the country too, as well as accessing other sites which sorts its traffic based on IPs. Very convinient when out of the states.

As for G**gle Voice, sweet functions and really useful. I signed up as a developer and got my account right away, I assume if you apply for an invite today you'd have it in a few weeks. Know several persons who've been invited lately. Seems to ba a PR trick, to create some hype. Best used together with and Android powered phone, you can then call directly into the cell phone, even when I'm in Europe! Extremely useful as you can imagine.

I was actually able to get a cool word phrase as a number, spent 2 days typing bullshit. Finally came up with one I liked.

I have a g1 with android, and google voice integrates really nicely with it.

you also have the option of just entering in a word and finding it. it has a one time fee if you actually take it. i have found a lot of cool ones, just never paid the 10 bucks.

Had the grandcentral one for years now google voice. I love it.

i have 2 accounts
1st is since the service was GrandCentral and 2nd just got it a few weeks back when GV opened officially

took about a month or so to receive the invite for the second GV number after I entered my email in that link
