Program owners immortalize your brand - why would you sponsor an event?

1)
First the option to immortalize your brand, as Various so clearly described it:

3) This is one of the most original sponsorship ideas in years and I've been around to see plenty. It also doesn't cost each company an arm and a leg and it's a very cool thing to be a part of; unlike a party where people likely don't remember your name, here you will be immortalized on the game board until it decomposes.

When I read this, I started thinking. What is it that makes a program sponsor an event?
Exposure must be the keyword.

This leads to the next question, is sponsoring a party for the show attendees or a property in a Porn Industry Monopoly game the right exposure?

What is it worth to sponsor a party where 100 out of 500 are the right persons in your target group?

What is it worth to sponsor a color group in a game of Monopoly?

That are open questions.

One fact is that we in the office got 4 pens from Hotmovies which we got at a show 2 years ago. Those pens are one of the best pens to write with that we ever had.
We care for those pens, if someone borrows my pen, I make sure that I get it back.

Do I remember who sponsored the same show two years ago? No.
My guess though would be that Pussycash was among the sponsors as they have been sponsoring almost all shows and have build their brand that way.

Please discuss what program owners shall and shall not sponsor to build their brand.

3)
A side question, are there any meaning in branding to affiliates if the affiliate concept is dying as many says?

Any help on finding an answer on what to sponsor in the future?

Non program owners, what advertisement do you notice an remember?
