Mangement Contract? Affiliate Manager? Buy In?
I have a number of new sites that will be launching here in the 4th quarter, and early 1st quarter if all goes well. However, I am running into a little issue with my local talent pool for hired help. Long story short, few have experience or are qualified.
I have been working with three part timers and they simply are pay check players. No matter the explanation, unless you want to be in online full time and working from your panties. You simply do not have the motivation. As they say, it comes down to a "will" issue. Not a skill one. Anyway, so it got me thinking on the best way to maximize these sites with the shortage of labor. Should I work with someone, similar to a management deal on pay sites I no longer want? Or should I bring on a hired gun and do a percentage of results? Or should I look at other options for those who want to buy on to a project? What I have coming up are along the line of social networks, among some other recurring billing business models. These are not going to be some carbon copy of what is already on the market chasing the same fish with the same tactics. -Model Labor/Talent Site -Social/Pay Site/etc. -Dating/Cam I am purposely not going into great detail because I really am more interested in the feedback of what you would consider. You have started development of some new projects that you know will make money. You are putting the money behind them, and you really fall more under a talented labor shortage for generating traffic, and daily management of the site(s). What would you do? Keep in mind, I am in S.W. Michigan. Which is AWESOME for me in getting girls in this college town and I recruit more women then I could possibly ever use for my projects. I want to maximize the models and make more money off of them since I can. Also stream lining my recruiting process. Since I can get talent for a song, it ties into labor that I will need for the interaction on the other sites, as well as profiles and other things short and long term. Basically continuing to capitalize in both mainstream and adult markets. But... I do not have enough talented people here locally who can really jump start these things, or provide valuable insight during the development stages. I have had some offers of others looking to invest, but I am not really interested in another full on partnership. I've had strategic traffic or management offered on past sites.... basically a traffic god comes in and takes over old pay sites I no longer want, and runs them for a percentage of the profits. Or there is always the glut of old reps being fired, let go, looking for work and claiming to be the second coming you could take on for base and percentage. My initial thoughts are to find a good limited partnership, do monthly of quarterly face to face meetings, and renew contract every 6-12 months based on performance. I do not want to abandon these plans, or sites, as I know they can make money. Short and long term. But this man power shortage is killing me. Ideas? |
interesting read, sounds like you have a solid plan.

Right now my biggest issue is I need some management of assets. Basically taking over the day to day, marketing and traffic piece. I have the script and content side covered. I know how to make them work. However, I do not want to spread myself too thin. Nor do I wanna go back to working 18 hour days, 7 days a week. My skills are better served on the creative, and content side of the equation. I need someone for that other piece. The maintenance after launched, and reaches a certain level of success. Once new projects take off. I really lose interest. I like the concept, making it work, then once it's rolling. Someone else has to do the maintenance side. I guess I need some form of profit sharing, or management type of deal for the long term success and revenue. However, this piece would have to be performance based, and up for review periodically. |

I have had some interesting conversations in ICQ. :) Quote:
It looks like my first thoughts were going to be the winner but I am still weighing my options. Basically finding a individual, or company, who can manage my websites once I get bored with them. They would essentially take over the day to day management, marketing, and promotion for a percentage of the revenue. They would be evaluated every 6 - 12 months, and renewed or dropped based on results. Which is good. I have a handful of sites that will fall into this category soon. The tricky part will be finding the right person(s) to manage the properties moving forward. Especially since so few know about niche markets, and traffic. I prefer to come up with the ideas, the sites, develop them. But once they get to a certain point, I lose interest. So I typically just sell them off, and go work on something new. However, these sites could be milked for a lot more revenue. Even if it is just a percentage. Still easy money for me to milk out of a site(s) being ignored. It is a good opportunity for the other side to come in and do what they do best in traffic, marketing, and networking. Just taking a percentage of revenue, which would mean it's basically tied directly to performance. It would be nice to find a long term traffic partner to work something like this with, but right now I am just fielding the e-mails and IM's with the ideas and feedback. |
Dude, the most successful people I have seen never got "bored" with their sites. It's like a hot dog stand, you just keep it working.

So hire a "hot dog stand" employee, make it simple.

I have been looking for a good 'manager' locally for a couple of years. I did not wanna go the stranger internet person route if I could train someone local to do everything. However, in probably a 100 or more interviews, I did not find someone who I thought had the right motivations, or will, to do this. If just anyone could make money online. Everyone would be able to do it. However, as many of us have seen over the years. It is not that easy. So finding the right person, and personality for this gig is key. Now I am looking at the right type of person/company who can manage online assets I have not sold, or no longer update, want, or web properties I am not longer passionate about for a percentage. Then I am still getting something out of them. |
If you want it done right, do it yourself.

I am not interested in working 18 hour days, 7 days a week any more just to maintain things I lost interest in. I can afford to not have to do it. So those assets I do not sell off, I can have someone else manage, and we split the revenue. I can make plenty more doing my new shit. That said, mail me your book of cliches to save me time and trouble. |

:thumbsup Yeah, in my off board conversations. It looks like a single person/company to handle on a revenue share basis may be the best way to go. That way I do not have to deal with the rest of the hassles. They do their part, revenue directly tied to performance, they get paid. As for me, I still make money on the sites that I do not sell. So they retain some value, and even if they make me a $1000.00 a month each, I can shoot almost a month's worth of content for that. That frees me up to work on the new sites, and projects that are of interest to me now. |

Right now sites on tap for this management deal (not sold) would include 1 Foot Fetish Membership Site 1 Foot Fetish Search Engine 2 Existing Celebrity Membership Sites 1 New Celebrity Skin Membership Site (not yet launched) 1 Amateur Solo Girl/HJ/BJ Tube Pay Site Hybrid 1 Foot Fetish TGP I have some other sites, and forums, I am still managing myself and have not decided if I will roll them into the package deal, or keep them separate as I still enjoy running them. Or have my assistants more a less running and updating them. However, time will tell as contract would review every 6/12 months. |
Are you looking for someone to fill more of a project management role, or a traffic generation role? Or both rolled into one person?

On the new projects. I do not have a full time project manager or web developer (yet). I am working out new sites, concepts, and technical bullshit by committee with Prez, borked, and konrad. Putting heads together on the best way to accomplish my new sites with platform, language, and so forth. Eventually I would be looking for a full time project manager, or developer, for new projects and dealing with coders and designers that can do quality control, and handle that side of things as well. |
Cool. I have project management experience with references in the adult industry. I'd like to talk to you more about it when you're ready to bring someone on.

Totally feel your situation; I'm very similar. Use partnerships to free yourself to inject time into whatever is really interesting to you.
You may balk at an idea like offering ~50% to a partner, but if you have the assurance that this buys you a solid revenue stream for X years -- AND you can focus on your latest impulse -- then it's a HUGE win for you. Set it up so that you continue to participate in an advisory, board-type, role and go go go do whatever else you want to do. You're looking for a kindred spirit, someone who loves entrepreneurial stuff but is even more engaged at an operational level. This isn't jobfair stuff. You're not looking for an employee, you're looking for an owner. |

There are also a couple of older pay sites, now offline, but DB's and domains still available with all clips watermarked, and in SiteDepth that could be brought back.
Oh, and then all my sites have OpenX running on them. So you have some ads sales of VERY TARGETED NICHE TRAFFIC that sells for $100.00 a month. I was running JuicyAds for a couple of months before returning to my own network last month. Number from previous this year are a bit lower in clicks and volume, but comparable. It should also be said numbers are close, but not as accurate as I would like. I still have Google Ads, among others, running in there. OpenX does not report those accurately for some reason. |
