shady seo practices: targeting easy traffic that sponsor would get anyway
I was reading shoemoneys blog, saw what he said below, and thought, shit, this guy is just coming out and saying it. 65% of the traffic he is sending (that hes making commission on) the sponsor would have gotten anyway if shoemoney had not gotten involved
For instance, when we took over the local dentist?s website, we did some basic SEO. Within no time it was ranking #1 for Lincoln. Seems like the target keyword, eh? Not so fast. Over 65% of the PPC traffic coming was from bidding on his company name or his personal name. To us, the magic was in bidding on the dentist?s name and business name. http://www.shoemoney.com/2008/11/04/...iate-programs/ |
This is nothing new... the best quality traffic is targeted. He just finds a way to get clients who don't realize that. Anyone in marketing, leads... etc knows this.

you might want to go back and reread it.

so if Program A comes out with a new site, mandymelon.com then some guy signs up as an affiliate, registers pornstarmandymelon.com and gets the type-in traffic for people searching for mandy melon (that the sponsor would have gotten if the affiliates site wasnt above his) thats whats happening here? |
you should go back and re-read the article. you totally missed or did not understand what he was explaining.
