Fletch XXX 09-01-2009 05:44 AM

My last move cross country cost about 7k, cant see how one can even do it without paying up front lol

DWB 09-01-2009 06:24 AM

Is it a bad idea?

Dood, if you have to ask, then you know. OF COURSE IT'S A BAD IDEA!!!!!

LiveDose 09-01-2009 06:32 AM

It could be a life changing experience. Especially if you feel you own too much stuff.

czarina 09-01-2009 06:51 AM

it all depends... if you're moving into the Playboy mansion then it's a great idea :)
other than that, dont even think about it.

IllTestYourGirls 09-01-2009 06:52 AM

What a seriously stupid question.

Go back to school.

spacedog 09-01-2009 07:08 AM

Yes, it's a fucking bad idea.. WTF you think

Buy a trailer. Fill it up with your essentials and "must keeps." Sell everything else. Move to new location. Sell trailer.

Moving for the cost of gas and travel, and you get a fresh start. Most of the crap we own we don't need anyway. A good cleanse will do some good.

StuartD 09-01-2009 08:18 AM

I just did exactly that... sold or gave away almost all the big stuff we had... rented a uhaul (only choice I had, I would have picked any other company)... filled it up with everything I had with the help of a lot of friends, hopped in, drove away.

It's not something that you can do for free but moving doesn't have to be a huge expense either.

Agent 488 09-01-2009 08:22 AM

just go. fuck it. you'll land on your feet.

Jade509 09-01-2009 11:06 AM

I cannot even count the number of friends I've had over the years that just up and moved to Florida from MD/VA with little to no cash.

They all did fine. I say did fine because I don't know off too many people in Florida with a job right now (meaning regular ol' job, not self-employed). I think their unemployment rate is 468%.

If you're willing to leave a lot of stuff behind, then yes....I had to up and move back to the mainland from PR...Just signed a lease on a condo on Isla Verde beach....Then I had to break the lease and since I can't ship my car back, I left it to the landlord.

By the way, I did this twice, Cross country. Yeh, it makes for a few days of hell but to me a few days of hell is worth saving $5,000.
