How long does a keyboard tend to last you?
I'm thinking it is about time for a new one. This one has done about two years worth of service which I reckon is pretty good. How long do keyboards tend to last for you?
12-24 months. i always find it's the ctrl, enter, space or V keys that pack up for me.
a couple years. They end up getting some sort of liquid dumped over after a while
If I manage not to spill something on it I can use them for years and years. Just got me a new Microsoft natural ergonomic keyboard 4000 and it is bloody brilliant.

With my older machines typically they will do another 12 or so months as video processing, or DVD burning, or upload/assistant machines before being totally scrapped or sold. I have never had to replace a keyboard prior to the end of my machine, unless I wanted a new one for vanity sake... wireless, better feel or more comfortable, easier to play games on, etc.. :2 cents: |
I've been using my old school white MS Natural keyboard since 2001. Still works perfectly after almost daily use.

I've got one from the first iMac that I still use regularly.
Easily 2-3 years.
Mine are constantly having to be cleaned because of pug hair somehow deciding to hang out on the keyboard. I do hold her sometimes at the computer but I wouldn't think as much as the amount of hair the gathers represents. So, it gets cleaned all the time so I am amazed it has lasted this long. I get so comfortable with a keyboard after a while that I can be reluctant to change to a new one.
at least a few years
I've had mine for about 3 years now and am doing everything possible to not have to get another.
about a year and couple months
Many many years! Just buy a quality keyboard! :)
Im gonna have to agree with the spillage. Could use the same keyboard for a couples years but somethings bound to spill in there by accident and then it just won't be the same =/.
A keyboard usually makes it a year. A few times though it's lasted less than 6 months, but usually because I spilled something on it :-)
lets say around 2-4 years..
Mine is from around 2000.. Whole computer is 9 yrs old actually. The A, S, O and L keys are completely worn off. Every so often I turn it upside down and whack the dust out of it.
I'm beginning to think it's time.... |
For me its around 8-12 months I tend to were out the short cut key on them pretty quickly . Same thing for the mouse. I tend to buy 2 to 3 of both at a time which is a big time saver.
for a while, have current one for close to 5 years now..
Until now, a year tops.
After going through several I got tired of it and bought the cheapest low tech logitech I could find, it even has a CORD. Cost me about $25 and is the most reliable keyboard I've had so far, no bugs.. love it. |
a standard one, about a couple of years, but they never really break, just go old lol
I was using my old IBM keyboard for the past seven years. Only about 6 months ago did I replace it with my new Logitech G15.
never usually have a problem with keyboards, guess its the way you stroke it that makes it last longer :)

Now around 2 years.
When i was gaming, not very long at all! |
Yep, about 12 months. I use the Microsoft Comfort Curve 2000. Cheap as chips.
Mine usually last me about 6-8 months or so. My problem isn't that they break or spilling shit in them. my letters wear off my keys long before the keyboard dies. lol
And don't try silver sharpie, that doesn't work either. lol |

My 'e' is always the first to go, then the 's' |
I'm using my current one for a few years at least

Hmmm I think mine last about three years or so, barring catastrophe :)

Chintzy keyboard paint is no match for my devastating touch. :1orglaugh |
damn, i think mine are 10 years old ... being the heavy smoker i am, i always have a clean one i dont use and one in use ... as soon as some key jams (damn ashes, lol), its time to pop out all keys, dismatle the board ... i wash it in hot soapy water and rinse out well ... after two days of drying i put it back together and it works like before :)
but damn, a mouse is a different story ... mine tend to die after maybe 6-9 months :/ |
Until it's dirty. I've had this machine since 2004 and have had about 6 keyboard and mice. I like to just go out and buy a new one instead of cleaning it.

I've never had a keyboard break on me so far.
Wow. I need to get off the computer.... Ive never had a keyboard make it a year...
If it's a Logitech, about 6 months to a year. They make great mice, but terrible keyboards. This Saitek board, however, has been taking a pounding for about 3-4 years now.
Remember these?
http://darrylmbutterscotch.com/uploa...M_Keyboard.jpg I picked one up for $5, but couldn't stand the loud click noise it made. |
I used this one for a long time...
http://i31.tinypic.com/6qjfq1.jpg That is what happens when you live at the computer. I was so used to the feel of it that I didn't want to replace it. Finally after trying out dozens of keyboards at stores, second hand shops and garage sales I found a cheap quality unused HP one that felt right. |
Probably a good 3 years
I love that click click click noise..
I guess now, there is some software that can decipher your typing noise and make it into something readable.. crazy shit I always buy an old keyboard when I break mine. Need to clean it, on these old ones, throw them in the dishwasher without heat. No problem. Let it dry in forced air, real well, before you plug it in again. Down at this computer store here this guy has 200 computer keyboards we couldn't get $50 for. I live in a waste-land. If anyone wants them, let me know. |
Couple of years
Hubby came home from work last night with a new keyboard for me. Some women like flowers...
I have Logitech MX3000 set for about 2 years and it's still very good...
If I could find a new one in stores I'd replace it with same set, since I really got used to it... |
Couple of years...
Couple of years for me. I spray disinfectant on the keys for hygeine purposes but eventually they get grotty... I buy a new one rather than clean it.
I get a new keyboard when I get a new PC which is usually every 2.5-3 years. I've never needed to go out and buy a keyboard.
3 - 4 years
A year or so...
