New suggestion for Eric to add to the gfy FAQ

Am I allowed to post humourous threads using the word pussy and then posting a picture of a feline?

No

gothweb 12-07-2002 03:51 PM

Yeah, but, come on... It's streaming live video. Its reassuring to see technology like that going to something other than hardcore porn. ;) Plus, I have been watching it all day... soothing.

You fuckers need to learn the difference between:

1. England
2. United Kingdom
3. Great Britain

:)

Yeah. I give that speech every now and then... But I try to cycle through my speeches, so it has been a while. ;)

The quick version, for the punters...

1. England is the biggest country on the island of Great Britain.

2. The United Kingdom comprises England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. (In fact, the name is technically "The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland".)

3. Great Britain is the island that England, Scotland, and Wales are on. The biggest island in a series of islands to the northwest of western europe.

Scotland and Wales are separate nations, part of the same unified country. They have their own rich histories, as well as regional governments. Their relation to the United Kingdom is the same as England's, though England is larger. Scotland is *not* in England.

Fascinating, i must admit, ive always been confused. So if someone lives in londom, what country do they live in? England?
And if someone slives in scotland, is that a country? Or a state?

London is in England. There are as many people in London as in all of Scotland, I believe... Scotland is the bit at the top of the island. It's the "new england" of the UK, more rural and wild. Wales is the "hogs head" area on the west coast.

Technically, a country and a state are about the same thing. The US is a union of states, but that used to mean more than it did when it started. Scotland is a country, not just a "state" (province). Since there has been a union, it is similar to the union in the US, but I think the individual countries maintain more of themselves than the US states have.
