For all of you complaining about horrible Sales in the Industry...

What do you have set up as Backup?

Back to School?
Get a regular job?
Retire?

For me, I know for a fact there is still lots of money to be in this industry as I see our Sales every single day to prove it. :thumbsup

Matyko 08-30-2009 10:36 PM

I noticed when I whine about bad sales/conversion/whatever my sales are becoming better. If my sales do rock and I tell everyone, they go down again. So I just whine and try to stfu, both in proper timing :)

Even if sales are bad, I am not thinking of any backup shit, I focus on training myself and being better and better in what I do.

Peace

How do you train yourself? Can you prove that training to an employer, if everything fails?

Map out a game plan, shut out the world and work your ass off. If you cant be self motivated get a job.

10 hectares of old olive trees have got my name on them, will head up there, build a house, plant a few vines and become a truffle hunter.

Producing and marketing single estate extra virgin truffled olive oil.

Well if anyone is honest what they are likely to do as a backup is go to a competitor or find another job within the industry. If the adult industry is only a means to survive and not a career, then more than likely those suggestions above will apply.

Often I found that those just needing a job usually get swept up thinking the adult industry is easy money with little work. Once they get into a sales job they find it extremely difficult without skills, but hopefully the company does make it a friendly environment to work in. Eventually when either family.friends find out or they want to move on to their career their rants/raves on the boards cease.

Those that actually have the adult industry as a career have networked themselves well enough that back-up's are only an ICQ away.

Barefootsies 08-31-2009 06:21 AM

No back up plan needed. There are still a lot of ways to make money in adult.

Unfortunately for some, it's becoming more of a 'pay to play' model. The skills sets needed for successful sites, and scripts, among other things are getting more advanced. Same for content as more people are moving towards semi, or exclusive content.

You need cash.

The bar for entry and to compete is being raised. The free loading, low bar music is coming to a close and a lot of people are going to be left without a chair. Some of these guys being run out of business, if they have a true skill set, will do what Legacy suggested. Trying to partner, or catch on with another company. Others will return to their paper hats.

Sarah_Jayne 08-31-2009 06:23 AM

my plan is just to work harder and go down screaming if it comes to that

i think that survival mode is what most people are in these days regardless if it is adult or not
which adds weight to do something you love
because if it is just making ends meet for now
then it will be the only way you'll keep your sanity

andrej_NDC 08-31-2009 07:22 AM

I have an university degree which should help in the worst case. But plan A is still to get retired from adult and then work in whatever kind of business just for fun and the challenge.

BlackCrayon 08-31-2009 07:26 AM

i moved on to another business model where people can't get what im selling for free no matter what.

Dave I agree 100%. I talk to a lot of people and while this isn't 2005 there is still a lot of money to be made. You just have to be willing to bust your ass to make it now :thumbsup

Wow, I never thought I would hear someone say that. I remember in 2005 everyone was bitching saying it wasn't like 1998.

Penny24Seven 08-31-2009 08:49 AM

I still have never noticed a change. Last year we made 1% more then 2008 and right now we are 2% higher then last year at this time. I expected a lot more then that but from what everyone says I guess I should be happy with it.

fuzebox 08-31-2009 09:03 AM

My sales are actually pretty good. This has been a growth year for me.

If something happens to adult I'll just sell something else. I'm smart and adaptable.

There is no need for a plan B. Things are going well.

tammix 08-31-2009 09:18 AM

I partially retired years ago to enjoy this hobby. And as long as it pays I love it. As for going for full retirement I guess I would get bored LOL. Someone posted earlier that "he has the Internet" and that's true, it's a "social-economic force" you can't easly resist to. Most of us are already embbeded to the Net.

That's so true, once you are in, you are usually in it for the long haul retired or not.
Can you imaging checking your email without checking your stats, lol. Just won't happen.
