Photographers of GFY... thoughts on the Canon 500D?

Thinking about picking one up as a replacement for my old Olympus 300 SLR (the ISO and focus points on the Olympus are terrible)

Canon 500D
- Full frame
- 9 focus points
- ISO 100-1600
- Live view LCD
- 3.4 FPS
- HD video (don't care about this feature)

The only thing that seems odd is it takes SD cards instead of CF.

And yes, this will be for shooting porn :)

Review Canon EOS 500D

thats a nice camera.. I have a Nikon XDS or something like that its pretty amazing paid around $1000 total for it.

It is a very solid camera. Get some quality lenses for it and you are set.

I bought it... I like it... I am not a professional photographer.

I did take these pics with it, though...

For what you will use it for, it's overkill.

Canon 500D
- Full frame

Damn, you got me all excited, until I looked more carefully. What made you think it was a full frame? It's the same EF-S mount and 1.6X "crop" as the earlier 300D-450D models...

pornocruto 08-30-2009 10:12 AM

money wise i would get the 450d, not a huge difference between that and the 500d.

Fuck, the sales guy lied to me

its not a bad piece of kit, but it is an entry level dslr. im still using (quite effectively) the 400D, couple with a good lens and *some* skill you will get top results. it may also be worth looking at getting a second hand 40D, older, but higher range camera.

its all about the glass on the end though in my opinion!

It's not for n00bs. If you want to take the time to learn how to actually use this feature, if it's anything like the HD video on the 5DMkII, it'll pretty much blow away any HD consumer/prosumer camcorder on the market now. In fact it'll come close to video you can get out of a Canon XL H1.

The specs for video on the 500D show 20 fps for 1080p or 30 fps for 720p. Is that the same for the 5D Mark II?
