Should a programs affiliate rep be fired if....

Say affiliateprogramX has a rep whom looked at webmasters stats and then copied the most successful affiliates methods as well as targetted the same keywords as the affiliates most successful keywords, should this rep be fired?

I'm extrememly irate at a certain incident where I believe this happened.

I had a site that had dozens of #1 -5 spots for some keyword terms/phrases that netted me 1000s of uniques per day and had very high conversions.. It remained this way for quite some time until one day a rep from programX hits me up and tells me how great my stats are, blah blah blah... next thing you know, a couple days later.. POOOFFF... All my traffic is gone and I check serps for my terms and there in my spots is this reps own fucking sites!!!!!!!!!

rep A will work for company B for X amount of time, then move to Company C and take your Idea #6 and = $

Daruma 08-28-2009 07:56 AM

should name names and out both the program and the rep :2 cents:

Grisey 08-28-2009 07:56 AM

Yes, reps are ment to help you make money not fuck you over thats for other affiliates to try and beat you in google etc

DamageX 08-28-2009 07:56 AM

If he were working for me, I'd promote him.

Machete_ 08-28-2009 07:57 AM

no, just post the link and name here so everyone else can make up their mind if they want to risk their income, by sending them traffic

couple of days and poof? That easy eh?

Agent 488 08-28-2009 08:00 AM

something missing from this story.

Agent 488 08-28-2009 08:01 AM

if he can "really" make a site and dominate the serps within two days you should be copying his methods.

wyldblyss 08-28-2009 08:02 AM

So you are saying he managed to take your placement in just 2 days?

Couple days after my conversation with the rep, not couple days after he allegedly did what I think he did.

Agent 488 08-28-2009 08:05 AM

well the google algo took you out, not his sites. unless he had like 20 of them to knock you off the first few pages.

and it would be impossible to prove anyway.

if you really suspect it not much you can do but take what traffic is left and go elsewhere.

Oracle Porn 08-28-2009 08:06 AM

name names or shut your trap.

RenegadeCash Mark 08-28-2009 08:09 AM

Well it's a pretty damn harsh thing for a rep to do thats for sure.

I'm not naming shit.. This is a theory.. something I assume to have occurred, not something that is absolute.

PR_Sebas 08-28-2009 08:24 AM

That's crazy. Sorry to hear that man. Hope you get your spots back.

..and then he'd fuck you over too.... sounds like a great deal! :2 cents:

FrozenJag 08-28-2009 08:41 AM

Yeah I would let him go.

If he is not trustworthy = Fired.

SmokeyTheBear 08-28-2009 09:01 AM

well first i would fire him , completely unethical behaviour for a rep.

Then i would hire him on as my seo expert :winkwink:

For those of you who think this is impossible , it really isnt very hard at all, especially if these are smaller niche terms. If he already had a good link base in place he simply bombs those keywords and bam he has his rank ( assuming some of his sites were somewhat similar to begin with )

ajrocks 08-28-2009 09:02 AM

Yes 100% In fact a good affiliate program will have reps sign contacts stating that they can't promote or develop traffic to prevent against this sort of thing. If i found out one of my reps was doing that they would be toast. Screwing over affiliate is bad business and a good program won't allow this to happen.

seeandsee 08-28-2009 09:18 AM

that was fast method!

mpahlca 08-28-2009 09:18 AM

Yep i would fire him, in a second, all our reps have non competes in their contract and CANNOT act as affiliates. If we caught them they would be gone. And I would cancel their account.

Serge Litehead 08-28-2009 09:34 AM

it is good idea to hide your pages from sponsors through doorway redirects

Lace 08-28-2009 09:37 AM

I don't think you could really prove this...and for them to 'knock you off completely' is nearly impossible unless they have massive sites in whatever niche to flood the serps. If they did, they would have done it before you anyway. All in all, if you can prove it, great. It's definitely wrong but that resorts back to ethics - most of the industry has no clue what that is anyway.

kristin 08-28-2009 10:11 AM

Heh, if the rep was on commission he should have figured out a way to increase your sales. I'm sure he can't keep up with it.

slayer69 08-28-2009 10:50 AM

job well done

_Richard_ 08-28-2009 10:55 AM

definitely should be fired.. the fact that he has the same type of sites you do would be enough to take issue with the reps boss.

Tom_PM 08-28-2009 11:14 AM

It's a fine line on redirect pages as sponsors need to know where your traffic is *actually* being sent from if they get complaints or have reason to be concerned.

Not saying not to do it (I recommend jump pages for ease of editing myself), just saying you may be asked to reveal your traffic source at some point.

nation-x 08-28-2009 11:15 AM

Mom!!??? Is that you?!!!
