Very annoying problem with Windows Vista.. Please Help.

Hello All!

New to the forum. I am running Windows Vista Home Basic on a Gateway Laptop that is less than a year old. I formatted my PC a few nights ago and put Vista Home Basic back on. I am having a very odd problem that has never happened to me before, I am going to try to explain the best I can below, hoping someone will understand and be able to tell me how to correct this.

Basically as I am typing in the middle of my typing whatever I may be typing it will just jump to somewhere on the screen. Like I am typing this sentence here and all of a sudden it will be a number of rows up and all of a sudden what I am typing is not where it was. This is lowing me down. It happens the most when I open a new window and start typing. Like I could open FireFox right now and start typing in a url and all of a sudden I will not even be typing in the browser it will be somewhere else! ::End Rant:: LOL

I hope I was able to explain this problem well enough for someone to understand and be able to help me fix this problem that is really slowing my performance down and messing my spelling up. If it would be easier to contact me please do, my contact info will be left below!

Thanks!

Try this download the latest touchpad driver install,
and reboot.

You sure you're not accidentally tapping the touchpad with your thumb when you type? I've caught myself doing it now and then. In other words, if you're typing and the mouse pointer is elsewhere and you accidentally hit the touchpad, you'll click back to where the mouse pointer is.

Format again and install windows 7.

Try different versions of the touchpad driver.. it is probably sensing movement when your hand or arm is over the touchpad.. that fucking sucks, maybe you can adjust or calibrate it somehow
My womans laptop does that I fucking hate it

Just simple, use MacOS.

Speaking of annoying... is it normal for Vista to blank the screen for a second before it pops up the "do you really really really want to run this program" dialog? (which is also annoying)

Check out the settings for the mouse/touchpad and disable the tap to click setting. It should be in somewhere like control panel. Check out this: http://forums.techarena.in/vista-help/921211.htm

Basically to test if this is the likely culprit tap twice on the touchpad and see if it clicks a link. If so, it's on and you should disable it.

This is a pretty common problem.

Is there any way for one to turn off the touchpad on vista if you are using a mouse

Besides in Control Panel (Classic View) > Mouse, some laptops have a button somewhere around the touchpad that you can press to disable it. The two I've had have it just between the touchpad and keyboard.
