5 days of public school in Cali costs a billion dollars, read that somewhere and it shocked me LOL 200 mill a day for cali public schools...

side note: had a family member who was a teacher in cali, he moved to Germany because they pay more and speak 1 language not require you to speak 6 just to teach in America... said he could not deal with all the frustration of trying to manage kids who dont speak English

Never understood how or why the language thing became an "issue". America speaks english. Did someone not get the memo?

Saw a little league world series game with a california team. They had to use a translator for one kid because he doesnt speak english. How is this possible? :(

Anywho, that'll be 250 less schools being supported by property taxes, so perhaps somehow it's a good thing(?).

This could only be a good thing, The Public schools here are at the lowest level so the only way could be up.

Just had the pleasure of putting my oldest in Kinder garden and after seeing what's available i opted for a private school even though it's costly.

and as far as kids not speaking English in school, this is really news to me hell they are kids they should learn it in the first 3 months even if they came from another country!

my ex was a teacher, but taught at a private school. paid a little less than public but everyone warned her how bad the public school system was there

They are still funded by tax dollars, they just have different rules. One example of different rules, which could be huge, is there is no union requirement. Charter schools can operate without unionized teachers.

That's a really interesting point. Kids learn faster than us old people, particularly languages. If they don't know English as a first language, they should be taught English, and then they could participate in all classes where English is the language of all. Ahhh... yet another example of politics outranking what should be logic.

not much to do with politics, more to do with the fact their parents dont speak english and the kid is basically on their own...

I know plenty of mexican families where the parents, and grand parents do not speak english. These people have jobs in cali, work here, but do not speak English, and have been here long enough to buy a home etc... in certain parts of Cali you need never speak English, I lived where it was all mexican families and no one spoke english to me, was actually nice LOL minded my own business and they smiled and helped me get whatever I needed in their markets... neighbors on both sides of me didnt speak english for the whole decade i lived in the Valley LOL I just said "hola" and walked past em

Sly 08-26-2009 09:43 AM

LOL. I know, I lived closer to the border than you did! Time to teach the youngins. But nobody is going to push that, the Hispanic vote would go bye-bye.

Good. Fuck California. This is what they get for allowing so many illegals to stay there and infect the system.

To agree with PR_Tom, America speaks ENGLISH. Those who can not speak it, do not need to be screwing up schools and jobs for those who do.
