What's a good car for under $10k

or the "best" car for under $10k for all you guys driving around bmw's and benz's. My friend needs a car since she's spending way to much on gas driving her Yukon. We looked at a Pontiac G6 that looked pretty nice the other day but was wondering what else might be nice...

Cyandin 08-23-2009 03:48 PM

The newest Civic/Accord or Camry/Corolla for $10k will get her more years of good use and good mileage than just about any other car out there.

Funny you mentioned that, I clicked this thread meaning to reply with "early 00's 3-series".

My dad has a brand-new Chevrolet Aveo for sale, less than 100 miles and it gets around 35 miles per gallon. Delivery is available of course, anywhere in the continental. Contact me if interested.

Sly 08-23-2009 03:55 PM

I forgot to mention that the price is $9,750. They sell on the lot for around 12k.

You know, I really like the Suzuki Aerio. I've driven them a few times from rental places. LOVE them, fun little car. If the bottom fell out and I had to downgrade I would pick one up.

BSleazy 08-23-2009 09:10 PM

Pretty sure she wants to go with a GM or Ford.

BSleazy 08-23-2009 09:12 PM

We test drove that pontiac g6 all over the place the other morning. I like driving it. It was all black and looked pretty sharp. They only want like $9,300. I think it's a 2007 but not sure.

I'm not looking for a car myself and if I was that would not be an option :)

Sexyblogger 08-23-2009 10:32 PM

Seat Ibiza is very good car :)

Joshua G 08-23-2009 10:47 PM

Late 90's infiniti g20 has all the luxury goodies, gets good mileage, is not on any steal lists & can be bought for 3-4k in great condition.

andrey 08-24-2009 12:57 AM

toyota!!

Pseudonymous 08-24-2009 01:37 AM

Like somebody said, there are some nice older bmw's around that price. You can get a really nice older jetta vr6 for that price with low milage. That was my old car. I loved it

Nevermind, guess if you went to the oldest year and found a decent deal.

Go for the Camry or Corolla ... Corolla is cheaper but Camry is a nicer drive. 7.2 litres / 100 km I believe.

Piotrek 08-24-2009 02:05 AM

i like BMW 7er model , for me its the best car.

Yeah, cause that's totally within his $10k price-range. LOL Maybe the 1990 model, and he'd be stuck with a V8 that gets 12mpg, and a super expensive cost of maintenance, like a radiator that cost $1000+ to replace. The only realistic situation to have that car is if you had the ability to afford a 2-3 years old version.

Fob 08-24-2009 08:20 AM

Yaris ftw!

I love those old Civics. My old '92 Civic used to go 500km on 30L of gas...

I've seen 01s for around 12 about 6 months ago, they might be cheaper now.

Honestly it all depends what you're looking for.

If you want fun and cheap to maintain - Get a Camaro SS or Mustang Cobra. You can find both for under 10k now for "newer" ones (00-02) and having owned both Mustangs and Camaros they are cheap to maintain. My Camaros have all gotten better than 20mpg except the current one within the last 600 miles, only due to a huge converter and huge cam.

If you want cheap to maintain, go with a honda civic. My ex girlfriend in high school picked up an 01 with rims, suspension and a QUIET aftermarket exhaust with a 5spd for something like 7900 with 30k miles on it. Was a 2 door coupe, super clean and honestly not too bad to drive.

If you want "luxury" you can't go wrong with a 00-01 ES300 from Lexus.

I would not get a Merc/BMW if you're doing upkeep on a budget. I did an oil change on a Merc E series to the tune of almost $100 whereas my oil changes are ~45 for full synthetic on a motor that is more expensive than most people's cars.
