Yeah Windows 7 looks pretty cool comparing to Vista :)

Jdoughs 08-15-2009 03:52 PM

It not only looks cool compared to Vista, it kills Vista in performance.

alias 08-15-2009 03:52 PM

What is the deal it is free for 6 months or something then you need a license?

Twig 08-15-2009 03:52 PM

I'll stick with XP until 7 is finished. By finished I mean all the initial updates released and whatnot.

stickyfingerz 08-15-2009 03:55 PM

Had it on my laptop dual boot almost a month now. No issues at all. Going to add it as dual boot to my desktop as well here shortly. Just need to grab a sata pci adapter as I am out of sata ports lol.

I totally agree. For some odd reason, there is a huge lack of problems from people lol.

candyflip 08-15-2009 05:01 PM

It's the best OS I've managed to get running on my Netbooks.

This is one of those times that after you switch, you wished you would have been a little more open and done it months ago.

There is several threads on this board by webmasters who installed it to try it out and have never went back. I don't think there was/is one negative thing in any of those many threads. If you use special programs like submitters or anything like that, just check if there is issues with them to be sure.

I've yet to find anything that doesn't work with it. CPU/RAM/TEMP everything is running twice as cool and twice as fast as before. I would recommend it to anyone.

EDIT (maybe not TWICE as cool and fast, but it sure feels like it.)

pamon 08-15-2009 05:32 PM

win 7 is awesome. stable, no crashes and works like a charm. running the RC candidate and will buy the new version when out. they hit a winner on win 7

beta-tester 08-15-2009 05:42 PM

it runs so smooth as virtual machine and I already like it ;)

My brother installed it on a really crappy laptop, it runs really fast. He had alot of problems before with vista on that computer, none of those problems appeared in win 7.
A friend that plays wow installed it and latency dropped alot among other things.
From what I have seen and heard very few people have had problems with the Win 7 RC.

I think they will get it really good from start, in truth they have to if they are to convince the major organizations to switch from XP.

Depending on when you get Vista, you may get a free upgrade.

* Windows 7 Home Premium (Upgrade): $119.99
* Windows 7 Professional (Upgrade): $199.99
* Windows 7 Ultimate (Upgrade): $219.99

And the estimated prices for the full Windows 7 package are:

Dirty Dane 08-15-2009 07:19 PM

It seems like it on the surface...are you judging performance by what? How fast it boots? How quickly windows and browsers open? How fast a file copies?

When I tested it, 3d renders in Mental Ray were about 25% slower than my Vista computer of the same CPU and motherboard, with the same 3d scene file. I like it, but I think I'll wait for a service pack or 2.

the RC candidate goes for a year and in october/nov win 7 is released. awesome clean user interface.

Toni 08-15-2009 11:52 PM

I am planning to install it as soon as it gets officially released

tiger 08-16-2009 12:16 AM

I'm loving it. Only issue I have noticed is something with my sound card, popping noise sometimes and some times the sleep power save thing doesn't work quite right but I just turned that off anyway.

Overall runs fast, very stable and tons of nice new features, coming from XP anyway, never bothered with Vista.

nolongerexists 08-16-2009 12:47 AM

windows 7 is finished, look around for W7 RTM, not RC ;-)

Killswitch - BANNED FOR LIFE 08-16-2009 01:27 AM

I'm gonna install it on my moms laptop tomorrow since it's got the RAM and shit for it, debating if I wanna risk trying it on my work machine which ironically is an old Dell Dimension 3000 that only has 512MB of RAM.

hypedough 08-16-2009 01:31 AM

Does Photoshop run well on it?

Probably just some video driver tweaks that would need done? Might check on That guru3d site see if anyone has started modifying drivers for it yet.

Marcus 08-16-2009 09:41 AM

7 was cool but it didnt have the video driver so things looked weird, so I was forced to go back to Vista

Weird are you using a really old card or something?

dyna mo 08-16-2009 10:39 AM

the new directx driver with w7 is very nice, i noticed a difference immediately and other gamers are saying fps is better

magmamoose 08-16-2009 10:42 AM

i think microsoft have got it spot on with 7. im intending to buy it shortly after release.. i haven't bothered with the RC though, havent really had time to play around with my system in ages.
