Best Sushi Rolls?

So I'll be able to eat a whole roll.. maybe two..
and I'm having them substitute the rice with finely chopped cucumber..
It's actually an uber friendly weight loss surgery food if you get rid of the rice...

What's the best rolls to get? what's everyone's favorite sushi?

and favorite restaurant to get them at?

seared tuna nigiri w/ garlic ponzu

Soft shell crab rolls are pretty good but they usually do them like tempura, so you might not want the grease from that. Tuna, and toro [fatty tuna] and salmon are decent too.

HorseShit 08-15-2009 01:42 PM

any kind that you want babe

Just get the Rainbow Roll to mix it up a bit.

I like the 911 roll with hot japanese peppers and then an orange roll with the creamy orange sauce to cool down from the last one.

Soft shell crab rolls?

I think those are the same as what we call Spider Rolls, only some restaurants have them around here, they are my favorite.

I wish I liked sushi. Everybody I know goes crazy for it. :1orglaugh

Then of course, there was the time I was in a Japanese restaurant here and feeling adventurous so I ordered a combination bento that included sashimi. I did not know or had completely forgotten that sashimi is just raw fish by itself.

Of course when my plate arrived I was shocked. lol Not wishing to appear the least bit unsophisticated, I ate the sashimi along with the other items in the combination.

It really did not taste bad. It was clean and nicely presented. I guess it is mostly mind over matter. It was a bit hard to get it down though.

Yup. Almost all WLS patients ask for it like that..
They even shaved a cucumber for me.. and WRAPPED them in Cucumber too.. It was awesome.. Call before you go to make sure you won't offend the chef.. some of the swankier places get offended if you change up their specialty rolls...

They did a Texas roll for me.. It was crab inside... with avacado, cucumber, jalapeno... I told them to go heavy on the crab so I got a lot of protein.. then it was wrapped in the white part of a cucumber too.. no paper wrap.. It was really good.. had two rolls...

And I ate two shrimp too.. Was stuffed, but comfortably..

The prices were great too.. and we lied and told them the older couple we went with were having their anniversary.. so we got bumped up to the big hibachi grill... and had a great time... :)

I'm going to get the Rainbow roll next.. but probably leave the regular paper on the outside since the carbs on it aren't that bad..

I'm down 34lbs in 5 weeks.. and am kicking ass and taking names on the treadmill... feel amazing :)

The best sushi roll is the one that's been tossed in the garbage :2 cents:
:1orglaugh

(I'm not anti-raw, I love carpaccio - sushi is just a bit too much for me :winkwink: )

Really, you can put anything you want in a sushi roll if ya try and make em at home...

I like that it's a way for me to get a little bit of veggies in.. and they're chopped fine already.. so easier for me to digest.. and it makes me feel like I can eat like a normal person.. lol

And I don't do raw sushi... I make them cook it..
I couldn't do sashimi to save my life.. even though that's like primo WLS food.. pure protein.... I just can't do raw I don't think..

Eel Rolls are Delicious :thumbsup

35 pounds in 5 weeks seems really too fast. Are you doing this diet under medical supervision? The rule of thumb is usually no more than 2-3 pounds per week. You're more than double that.

Good luck with your program!

Volcano roll
Dragon roll

But I prefer Sashimi with my low carb diet :)

ShellyCrash 08-18-2009 10:39 AM

Kani-su rolls are wrapped in thinly sliced cucumber / no rice.

That's interesting wor weightloss surgery to replace rice with cucumber? I know with ulcers I can't eat any raw veggies so I have to be careful how much cucumber I eat, I'm not really supposed to have any. I'm good for white rice, but I know it's not really low cal / carbs.

There's a place down the street from my house that makes something called "Tuna Nachos"

It's their own creation and it's AMAZING!! :thumbsup:thumbsup
