Nice.

I want to do that trip on day. How many shots did you need to take before you left? How is the lodging? How is the food?

:thumbsup

Took a bunch of shots, only had a 200mm, should have brought a 300mm +

Did the whole thing on the cheap 430 Usd (250 is just park/camp fees) for 3 days, slept in a tent, and camp food.

stoner529 08-15-2009 05:31 AM

This man lived in a cave for a summer in the hills of the Serengeti, after being gifted a wife by a local tribes leader.

Was in Rwanda 2 weeks ago and saw the Gorillas there. 500usd for one hour, but worth it.

CaptainHowdy 08-15-2009 02:42 PM

Wow wow wow, this just made the short list on places to go

MikeSmoke 08-15-2009 04:18 PM

Did this trip in 1984 and it was one of the highlights of my life (we spent three days with the gorillas but other than that, same trip) - and I encourage *everyone* to do it, if they can, before you get too old to fully enjoy it.
Camera: I brought a 70-200mm zoom but also brought an doubler so I could get up to 400mm, definitely worth the extra weight carrying it in the bag.

Max, looks like you hit all the highlights - good for you :thumbsup Did you camp in the crater, so that you could get on the road before sunrise?
(The best stuff we saw was just at sunrise, and we were headed back to camp for breakfast as the jeeps with the people who stayed on the crater's rim were headed out for the day :thumbsup)

well, that's the advantage to being at the edge and not inside the crater...i wouldn't go outside to pee at night because lions were prowling around the campsite :1orglaugh

Oddly enough, in east Africa hippos kill more tourists a year than any other animals.

Mr. Cool Ice 08-16-2009 05:25 AM

Any links to how you planned this trip out?

Toni 08-16-2009 06:48 AM

I don't doubt that - but I don't *think* they stray very far from sources of water. So a campsite far from the lakes would probably be safe from hippos. Not sure about those prowling lions, though :helpme

notime 08-16-2009 03:47 PM
