Got a netbook? Spam me!

I'm looking at the blue Asus EEE http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834220554

8 hours battery life seems to beat the others in the 290-340 price range.

Anyone have one of these? Or recommend something similar with a nice battery life?

I have a Macbook that I carry now, but I'm nervous about carrying a $1200 computer around with me all the time. My friend's little brother just got robbed at gunpoint for his laptop. :Oh crap

Basically I'm looking for something small, cheap, long battery life. Will be used for web browsing, ssh, php/html/css work, chat/im. Linux or Windows is fine. The macbook handles photoshop and everything else, so I'm just looking for a portable machine.

Thanks guys :thumbsup

I've got 2 at the moment. Personal and Business versions of the Dell Mini 9. They discontinued it, but due to demand brought it back but with a price increase.

They are pretty popular due to the ease of installing OSX on them. With a 16 gb SSD upgrade, you can install OSX right from a retail copy of the disc. Everything works, web cam, volume buttons, bluetooth, wifi, etc.

I bought one on CL for $150 and got another on a special deal from Dell for $200 and did all the SDD and memory upgrades in 5 minutes myself.

We don't leave the house without at least one of them and they often come in handy.

How's the battery life? Price range? I'm looking for something 350 or cheaper. All I see at dell is a mini 10 for around 350.

I dont have a windows machine anymore, I run OS X and openbsd and freebsd, so a hackintosh would be a plus.

I heard you can run os x on the MSI netbooks but never heard anything about those.

netbook gurus...help!

Just got this new netbook and Im trying to take screen pics of videos running in GOM video app (to get "still" takes)
First I "take" the screen pic with the Impr-pant key, then Im using the Paint app that comes for free to "copy-paste" and the "still" shows up but when trying to save it the pic moves! and I get a black-screen file saved, anyone knows how to do it right? or other ideas ?
thanks!:(

Battery life is good with OSX about 5-6 hours. It's a little better with Win7 and the same should be said for Snow Leopard with it's released.

I have a buddy with the MSI Wind and he had a heck of a time getting OSX on his. With the Mini 9 you can pretty much install it as normal, run a little script and all is good.

The Mini 10 can not run OSX. The Mini 10v (the mini 9 in a bigger case) can. So if you're buying one to run OSX keep that in mind.

5-6 hours isn't bad at all. I was looking at the 10v, it's cheaper than the Mini 10. Now to compare it to that Asus model, I'm pretty torn :1orglaugh

Got the HP 1100 .. Battery is about 4 to 5 hours ( new ).
Could not refuse to buy it a Futureshop :

349.99 $ CAD
plus : free Comstar Ext USB 320 GB drive ( value 100.00 )
plus Epson NX115 for 19.99 ( instead of 99.99 ) - that I just unloaded on ebay for 70.00 ( factory sealed )

Net cost : $200.00

I'm hoping for a Mac netbook soon. The latest rumors are for an Oct release date but the rumors so far have all been bogus.

I know what you mean, but the Dell Mini 10v does os x.

The Asus has better battery life. It's a tough choice I think.

The Apple tablet device won't be a netbook. It's be more like a big iPod.

The closest you'll get to an Apple netbook is one of these others running OSX.

The Minis don't come with a giant power brick like most laptops. The cable to plug mine in is very small.

i kid you not i pull out 10 hours on a full charge with my toshiba. the battery life is fucking solid...
