SexWaldo Streaming Video test
 

Hey Gang, we're stress testing the SexWaldo video server a bit. We're going to add Java video this month but right now it's QuickTime streaming. If you'd like to try your hands at the controls (and have a broadband connection) just go here and follow the links in:

You need QuickTime 6 and may have to change your QuickTime preferences. Sound is off and we have the barebones version of the control/chat interface up but it gives you a rough idea. Let me know what you think...

All you need is QuickTime 6. People and plugins don't seem to work to well together which is why Java streaming will be the default setting.

I have QuickTime 6. I even set up the streaming transport to the recommended settings. I still don't pass the QuickTime test thingie. This is on OS X (most native QT6 you will find) 10.2.2, Mac IE 5.2.2. The sample (non-streaming) video looked great, though... very clear quality.

Really? Huh, so far our OSX users have been able to get in no problem. You gave it a second to load the test movie on the control page? I appreciate you posting, that's exactly the kind of information I needed. The default will need to be Java streaming but I would like to offer the option of QuickTime because the MPEG4 quality can't be beat. Thanks again...

I click on the test thing... I get "Checking QuickTime" and then instead of "QuickTime Okay", I get "?".

Okay, I made it work... got the HTTP streaming setting to hold. However, you really shouldn't make people change their default settings on their plugins-- switching that will break QuickTime streaming from other servers.

doesn't work for me. Go with Windows Media, it's almost the standard now, especially in adult.

Once inside, its "500 Internal Server Error" under a video that doesn't load. Is that expected?

Edit: Working now. Needs to work on the first try, or else viewers won't be interested. Too bad there's no model there. ;)

i did change the streaming protocol............i've got Quicktime 5.02 installed. Might require QT 6. I'd love to see SexWaldo but no time to go install now.

Unfortunately most people have software firewalls these days so the normal QT streaming port 554 is closed- and it's a lot harder for them to change their port settings then their QT preferences. Port 80 goes past firewalls but they have to change the preferences. It's why QT streaming isn't used more, the quality is better then anything else out there but the install and configuration is just plain stupid. There's no way in a million years I'd use it as the sole streaming feed for any commercial project.

Its a nice little idea, very cool setup. I think you need it to work right away when people try it, for one thing. Also, if you can cut down on the 5-second delay some, it would help it be more interactive.

I don't have a personal firewall active. I don't think its all that common... Is it?

Java stream will be under 1 second, the current QT stream is normally around 2 seconds but under QT it buffers locally so it can be hard to reduce it to much less then that. During the live model sessions the delay is almost unnoticable because the Waldo is set to change between speeds and depths gradually.

We don't really need them, on Macs almost all our ports are closed by default. But they are very common with adult surfers on broadband connections these days (which is why I ended up having to go to port 80). Pain in the butt...

Quicktime is really terrible, its ranks right up there with real player. Bad formats that most people don't have plugins.

I'd use a more universal format!
(stuff that plays on windows media player)

A Waldo is a remote-operated arm, such as those used in biocontainment, the space industry, clean rooms, etc. The idea is that you use your arms to move a controller, and another arm mimics your own arm's movements... at a distance, and potentially at a different scale. Pretty cool way to work on a variety of things. I think the name came from the Robert Heinlain novella "Waldo"-- about the misanthrope inventor, Waldo. (Can be found, along with another novella, in the collection "Waldo and Magic, Inc."

SexWaldo is, thus, a really great name for a cyberdildonic device.

No, the quality of the QT plugin streaming MPEG4 is far better then either Windows Media or Real BUT you're right, people don't have the plug in and configuration is a hassle. The QuickTime stream- if I end up still having it at all, would only be an option for more advanced users who wanted the higher quality. The rest would just use Java.

"Waldo" was the original term for any tele-operated device. Comes from a famous old Scifi story. It's neat, short and it avoids having to use terms like "tele-operated device"

We'll be opening the SexWaldo revenue model to other webmaster in a number of different ways. We're going to be offering pay-per minute one-on-one sessions as well as group chats. Both would have associated partnership programs- given that chat time on this is a VERY high ticket item the payouts could end up being among the highest in the business. We will also be leasing monthly blocks of time to other paysites, ideally they would use these only in weekly sessions so as to retain their members past trial periods but it really would be up to them how they used it.

This is at least a month or two away though, I'm not going to sell something unless it is a fully tested and reliable revenue producing device. It's expensive, the current clunkyness is not an option.
