I unchecked the fucking box!!!!

Jezis Kryst!

Everytime I join or buy anything from anywhere... More often than not, there is some stupid prechecked "Check here if you want to join our stupid newsletter, receive updates and news about this stupid product, service or subscription."

I ALWAYS UNCHECK THAT STUPID BOX!!!!

This includes affiliate programs. I don't really care to be on your newsletter, or want to know what galleries you just posted.

I ALWAYS UNCHECK THAT STUPID BOX!!!!

So, I ask you this... Why is it that when I UNCHECKED THE FUCKING BOX!!!!.... I STILL get fucking emails from these places?

Isn't that considered "Spam"?

If you're not going to abide by your own checkbox... Why even put it there? Why not just say "Hey, we're going to send you stupid emails about our updates. There's no checkbox, so don't even think about unchecking it."

I UNCHECKED THE FUCKING BOX!!!!
I UNCHECKED THE FUCKING BOX!!!!
I UNCHECKED THE FUCKING BOX!!!!
I UNCHECKED THE FUCKING BOX!!!!
I UNCHECKED THE FUCKING BOX!!!!

I get about 800+ emails per day. 10 to 30 real ones... The REST are from places that I UNCHECKED THE FUCKING BOX!!!!

Anyhow </rant>

Thanks for reading.

Brujah 08-04-2009 05:54 PM

You really should have unchecked the box.

directfiesta 08-04-2009 07:12 PM

You have to CHECK the box that says UNCHECK the box .... simple no ?

epitome 08-04-2009 07:21 PM

Maybe you get so frustrated at the boxes that you accidentally double click, thereby checking the box?

sarah peachez 08-04-2009 07:23 PM

Fucksakes 08-04-2009 08:43 PM

Paul Markham 08-04-2009 08:53 PM

As someone who sends out newsletters for the stores and the sites I will tell you why you get them.

In todays busy world the people who buy or send traffic are the ones who want to be kept up to date with what's available. They do not want to waste time trawling around looking for updates, they want updates delivered to their mail box. These are the guys that do business and the guys I react to.

If you hate spam, and 800 a day is not a lot, get a spam filter.

Deesnuts 08-04-2009 09:10 PM

to check or not to check......blah blah blah

VeriSexy 08-04-2009 09:26 PM

You need to point out why it's stupid to stop people thinking you don't have a clue. Unless you think those who don't buy or sell for you should determine your sales policy.

borked 08-05-2009 12:22 AM

Read before you uncheck

I do not want to receive promotional newsletters [X]

:Oh crap

FlexxAeon 08-05-2009 12:35 AM

actually... i have proof you checked the box. i'm going to expose you for the scammer you are

San 08-05-2009 12:54 AM

Get gmail then just report the fuckers for spam with one click of a button. They get blacklisted and you never receive mail from them again.

Did you read the original post?

Nobody cares if companies send updates or information to people who want that information.

The problem is when you uncheck the box that says, "Check here if you want to join our stupid newsletter, receive updates and news about this stupid product, service or subscription." and you get all the information anyway.

That was the point of the post.

Horny Joe 08-05-2009 01:38 AM

And nobody thinks a sec. about the poor bastard that MAKES the box and the checks! If no one was to check the box, there would be no reason to use the boxes and the checkboxmakermen would be out of biz! I say MORE checkboxes! Solidarity towards the checkboxmakermen! They need work, too! And love! Work and love! And food! Work, love and food.

Oh.... sigspot!

This reply just cost me $14.98 in lost CCbill sales..... Better work!

Iron Fist 08-05-2009 01:47 AM

It's one of those hidden oncheck() routines, installed by a rogue programmer most likely...

Don't worry about it.

GrouchyAdmin 08-05-2009 02:36 AM

Uncheck the goddamn box.

Marialovesporn 08-05-2009 02:37 AM

Make sure you uncheck the box.......

Are you seriously suggesting that it's ok to ignore him unchecking the "send me crap" box and send him junk mail anyway? And that somehow, on the distant planet that you obviously call home, it's HIS fault that idiots like you are sending him junk that he asked not to recieved?

FlexxAeon 08-05-2009 02:51 AM

who brought all the serious business into this thread? :disgust

Konda 08-05-2009 03:14 AM

You unchecked the box that said "check this box if you don't want to receive any emails" ?

No I never said that and you're assuming I did therefore twisting my words. I told him why he gets them, why people keep sending them and why he should be less anal about it. If he can't block emails from a domain that says a lot about his skills.

If people write to me and ask not to get the newsletters I take them off the approved list totally so he can't log in. Very rarely get complaints because the guys never buy. I'm doing a 50 sets for $50 at the moment. A lot of the serious buyers will want to know when it's ready.

Which is why it's better to get the emails and save time searching sites that did not update.

It's tough these days and people need all the time they can find, they need to know about fresh content, they need to work on sites and not wasting time searching for it. If they don't like the site they signed up to just block them in the email program. Takes less time than to continually down loading and deleting emails.

Tom_PM 08-05-2009 08:53 AM

I can try to answer the question but I'm not an expert.
Is it spam? Actually, no it almost certainly is not legally considered spam. For instance, imagine your electric company sending you your monthly bill and inside are several flyers and ads from various places. Or, your phone company or bank calls you with specal deals. These are all places where you have a existing established relationship. So for them to call, write or email you is legal and NOT spam.

Even in the case of a checkbox it's not hard to think of a scenario where you would explicitly say NO THANKS and still get emails. All the sending company has to do is NOT send you the super heavy advertisements, but still send you the weekly or monthly or bi-annual updates.

Maybe the company could put some more effort into managing their list and clients or whatever, but legally do they have to? Probably not in a case where you are willingly partnering with a company. In those cases, you are not some unknown random person, you are a person with an established relationship with the sender, and therefore not subject to any can-spam issues.
