just reading R.A.M.E, here's two posts teaching more newbies how to fuck over paysites by taking a trial and sucking the whole site down to your harddrive then cancelling before the trial recurs to montly.

Galling thing is that one post is from a webmaster!

I think anybody who is running a paysite where they have leased content being billed by bandwidth usage or their own content needs to meter their customers bandwidth usage and when your software detects a leech kick him out before he gets costs too much. I think i saw that the new Pennywize has this feature.

simple solution. don't use trials. limiting bw usage will only piss of your member.

some people still believe in trials.

and i bet it would be possible to detect true leeches from members who are merely heavy users. so i think you could work it that you wouldn't scare or piss off customers you can make a profit on, meanwhile getting rid of leeches.

how many simultaneous connections can a member make on your site quiet?

Trial leeches are fine, atleast I get the $2.

Yes, the new Pennywize can limit the amount of data your members can download per day. We currently see our clients set limits of anything from around 100Mb to 1Gb.
(you can of course not set any limits!)

When they exceed their limit, you can display a custom page explaining why they are blocked.

Can you limit the amount of download data for trial members only? That why if they exceed the set amount your custom page can read:

Trial memberships are limited in the amount of data that can be transfered per member. This is to protect our site from fradulent activities that has been accuring in the adult internet industry. You have exceeded the maximum amount set. If you feel this is a mistake you may contact blahh blahh

that's an excellent idea. people on trials get capped, when they cap out you give them the big upsell page telling them that full members get UNLIMITED DOWNLOADS. Much more elegant solution to what some people are doing now, having a trial to a cut down version of the site......much better to let them have free run of the site, just cap them at a pretty low threshold.

As far as trials, how about having a much smaller scaled down version of your site in the trial area? I think it is a better option.
