yeah whatever

bmw > toyota = true
but the bmw costs more
if you need to get from A to B and are cheap or broke, the toyota is the better car.
this is also true for apple vs windows (they are both PCs :P)
the apple is nicer, but the windows box is going to cost more than 1/2.
also if you have real work to do you'll end up putting an emulator on your mac or buying a windows box because windows has a larger selection of apps (with the one exception of video/photo editing)

PC over Mac definitely :thumbsup

PC can do anything a mac can do, for a quarter of the price

I picked up the new macbook pro, I bought into the hype I must admit. I then returned it 3 days later, got a laptop with identical stats, BUT a much better video card, and an HD screen. By returning the mac and getting a SUPERIOR computer, I saved 2000$ dollars.

also...windows 7 is awesome :D

Bullshit, name the PC then?? You probably see GHz and think it's the same "stats".

Since this is such an old argument, I'll just re quote myself from the past

EHHHHHHH Wrong!

You're showing your ignorance here. MACs are expensive because they use expensive hardware. Go look at what CPU and Motherboard a MAC uses, then go to newegg and look at how much they cost.

And we're not talking same "specs" we're taking same hardware. If you go to build a "comparable" PC, you can't just say "oh I put a dual core 2.0 GHz Intel proc in it, just the same as the MAC." There are dozens of variations of dual core 2.0 intel proc's, and the one's MAC use are not the piece of shit low end ones.

When you buy a MAC you are paying for the Hardware, not the OS. :2 cents:

Look it up yourself and educate yourself next time you try to open your mouth about shit you know nothing about.

No, you're simply clueless. You're not very well knowledgeable in computer hardware.

I have not checked the latest MacPro's, however the last time I did the closest thing you could find was Intel's 5000 series. These are the Intel Server Motherboards, for Xenon procs. It's the closest off-the-shelf motherboard you can get to the Intel MoBo Apple uses.

Here is the NewEgg dir of Intel Server boards, go find the listings of the 5000 series. They're all in the 300-500 price range. You think Dell uses those mobos? Or any other "standard" PC manufacturer? Ha!

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2%2050001157%2040000 302&Manufactory=1157&SubCategory=302&SpeTabStoreTy pe=1

For procs, they were Using Intel Xenon's with Harpertown Cores.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010340727%205000115 7%201652841710&name=Harpertown

Again, you think Dell is using these procs in their machines? No, most PC manufacturers will go with a cheaper proc with the same "specs".

To the average joe, a quad core 3.0 GHz is a quad core 3.0 GHz. They don't understand the difference between the cores or the proc itself. Or that the price range on quad core 3.0 GHz Intel procs is from $300-$1,700.

If they're selling you a quad-core 3.0Ghz, that's all you're going to see, and you're going to buy the computer based on price. Not whether that is a $300 quad core 3.0 in there, or a $1,700 quad-core 3.0 in it. Some people see beyond the marketing scheme of lowest price, and want the better hardware. You get what you pay for. I've been building my own PCs now for a decade. I'd never use the shit ass hardware any of the standard PC manufacturers use. The parts I buy are the higher end top of the line stuff, which exactly the route Apple takes when building their machines.

People that complain about Apple prices are tools, and don't know shit about computer hardware. A PC with the same hardware as a mac will cost the same as a mac, there's no "theory" here, go research the shit yourself.

- Their ram is however over priced, but everyone knows that! :upsidedow

A MAC is not cheap because they don't make low end versions. They only make their very specific high end stuff.

There are so many PC manufacturers who do the same thing as Apple. They only use the high end hardware, and their prices are just as high as Apple's. All the good companies out there making computers, use CPUs that cost more than average "PC" you see marketed to you on TV from Dell or any of the other shit companies.

....you get what you pay for, and there is no price difference between a MAC and a good PC. :2 cents:

now, that's cheap!

That's disgusting.
It uses a Q8300 processor ::barf::
Since it's Gateway, the mobo is a system board ::double barf::
The video is integrated GMA X4500 (and from a Gateway system board nonetheless) ::triple barf::

Jesus Christ, I wouldn't even take that computer if it was FREE!!!!! Plus, it's sickeningly overpriced. You could build that same thing for like $400 on newegg/tigerdirect.

No wonder people think Apple is expensive. So clueless when it comes to computer hardware. Gateway and Dell are not the "standard" of computers. They use the absolute worst possible garbage hardware you can find.

This guy has a point... I built a system early last year.. PC.. spent about $3,000

Example: Motherboards, there are some from $20 - $250.. I bought a very high end EVGA SLI mobo

VIdeo Cards: I got the highest end at that time, 8800GTX, 2 of em, $500 each = Total $1k right there

Ram: You can get ram anywhere from $5 to $200 a stick(back then), i got high quality OCZ Ram that you can overclock..

Also got a high end case, high end raptor Hdisk, CPU, etc etc

So yes you can theoretically buy a gateway or dell for $500, but try to build the computer above i just listed for $500.. Nowadays you can prolly build it for $1.5k, but its a way better PC.. A motherboard ISNT a motherboard ISNT a motherboard..

Theres performance differences even though they are all motherboards.. just like theres performance differences between hdisks, video cards & CPUS & Ram sticks

pc = personal computer...couldn't a mac be a pc? ummm....

Apple has used TN panels in some of their monitors. That's the cheapest of the cheap when it comes to LCD panels. The best option for a video card isn't near the best card out there in their top end computers. It use to be you couldn't even use one of the best for games until recently when a few companies such as EVGA started making mac versions for top of line cards. Before that the best you could put in a mac was some two to three year old nVidia card. I could go on...

Truth is you're paying for the apple logo and that's it. Hell anandtech and dailytech rip on apple all the time for being overpriced and those sites are run by the biggest dorks on this planet.

There's many other reasons why macs are just hyped up BS. They run advertisements that hint you don't need a antivirus but yet apple has came out and said you better use one. Hell now there's a new hack to record keystrokes and more on macs because they can't even make a keyboard right.

Simon_Spicecash 08-04-2009 10:54 PM

I dunno, I had the macbook pro that was similar to my current HP HDX18, and running the two side by side, my gaming was better on my HP, HD video was handled about the same on both...yet my HP cost several thousand dollars less.

My HP and the apple are both running indentical processors from Intel, and graphics cards from Nvidia - so hardware quality? I dunno...maybe the motherboard and ram are cheaper? I dunno but at the end of the day - my HP does the same for cheaper. Thats the end all be all argument for me.

also as a sidenote, I spilled a HUGE cup of coffee (milk + sugar) right on my HP...there was coffee coming out of the USB ports, the blu-ray drive...the whole shabang. I turned it off right away, booted it back up a few hours later - and still runs like a charm several months later :D I love HP! hehe

mike.xxxtreams 08-04-2009 11:46 PM

What's Mac?
mac = intel CPU, intel/nvidia GPU nowadays

I must laugh all the time these Apple egoists don't know anything about it...

Did you mean "MacOS > Windows" ???

Nice colors btw, good job.
