Anyone got a plasma tv?

I am looking to buy my wife a plasma tv for xmas and I don't know shit about them. Anyone have one or reccommends one!

Thanks peeps.

Captain 12-04-2002 12:51 PM

I have a SONY Plasma, it's a real TV unlike some brands that are just monitors without turners and speakers...

Go with a sony :)

Nice, once someone starts promoting my affiliate program I'll be able to buy one :) If sales keep up like they are, I'll get one next month... One guy sent me 40 sales so far in December!

Probono 12-04-2002 01:21 PM

Does it show GFY reruns?

DarkJedi 12-04-2002 01:27 PM

hell no, the fuckers are too expensive

winter 12-04-2002 01:42 PM

Not a plasma... but a nice 42" HDTV that was paid for from porn money:

For the price of a plasma, I'd try talking your wife into getting a front projector instead.

Probono 12-04-2002 01:49 PM

I have been shopping for a big screen, plasma or rear projection. My wife wants plasma I was ready to go along with it until I started reading the warranties.

They do NOT cover failed pixels and uneven fading of the images.

I think I am going rear screen projection

Start sending us some traffic and you can earn enough Gold Bar points where we'll ship you one for free. We offer a couple of them. It might take you a little while to earn enough points though.:winkwink:

It is beyond me why people pay more for a tv or car payments.. than they do on rent.

I've got the 47" Samsung and I LOVE it! It's great for watching DVDs (no picture is better short of a plasma), but sucks when watching regular cable at low resolution.

eru 12-04-2002 02:28 PM

I'm gunna buy a 40" Sony Wega.

Just as clear as plasma and much cheaper.

Get your wife one -- it's like $2000.

bigdaddyc187 12-04-2002 03:19 PM

Thanks for the info guys. I currently have a big screen tv toshiba that we bought after we got married but were moving it to the basement. But i will check into the different ideas posted.

A plasma from gateway is just 3k

BradShaw 12-04-2002 03:32 PM

I have a 42" sony plasma built into my library wall. It looks good, since depth was an issue turning a simple bookshelf into an entertainment center. Have is on a 18" swing out arm so you can view it from all over the room.

But if you do not have a unique situation where depth or viewing angle are an issue, I would get a normal tv for the $.

Get the Sony 40" 40XBR800. Fully HDTV plus you are not stuck
with 16:9 for local broadcasts. I have one and the picture is much sharper than the Plasma as the pixel size is smaller.

I've had a 36 trinitron for a couple years, they are one of the best big screen TV's out there with a nice big tube instead of projection or plasma. :2 cents:

I'd like to get a new 40 incher soon, it must wiegh a ton though, me and my buddy both hurt our backs the last time we tried to move my current TV.

Hey Craig,

What are the chances JB will let me have the 42" Sony Plasma with only 14,000 points? I saw the Sampo one but who the hell is Sampo. I want the Sony Plasma :Graucho

I'm closing in to cashing out pretty soon!

Don't know what your budget is, but if you can swing it, check out the Panasonic PT52DL10. Its about $13K. It uses DLP technology which produces an even better looking higher def picture and brighter one than Plasma. You'll be in awe watching this one, its so good makes you feel like you can just reach and touch the people on screen.

Direktor, is that keyboard wireless? I've been looking for a wireless keyboard with the natural layout. What kind is that?

Both the mouse and kboard came together.
Microsoft Wireless Media Desktop.. get it at Office Depot for 80$
so far it works better than the old logitec I used to have.

KRL - i saw that DLP on another model this past weekend for around $4K i believe - maybe a Samsung? need to find the ad....

Lensman 12-04-2002 05:55 PM

I have two. They are selling a Kickass one at Costco right now for $3299.

Also Gateway sells them for $2999, made by LG, also a real good one.

Once you go Plaz, you don't go back.

How many inches are those Plasma's, that's a good price...

Yeah it is. I personally love it, picture quality is great for dvds and video games. Only problem is it only has one set of video inputs. Well worth the $1600...

Unfortunately, that's not a janitor's room... that's my shitty apartment. Campus housing is bottom of the barrel around here and costs a fortune.

playa 12-04-2002 11:25 PM

Saw a Samsung HDTV model # HLM 507 (50inch screen/uses the DLP tech as well) at Cambridge Sound Works over in Milpitas.
The fuckers wanted $5K for it...found it online for only $3K...

Must say...it's WAY nice man! only 17.5 inches in depth and under 100lbs i believe. I could not find any angle where the picture quality wasn't perfect. Great for any room from any angle!

Tek.

There's more to know about Plasma TV's.that really doesn't make it all that interesting to me right now to spend the money..even if I had a few "G's" to spend on a TV.
